Maps Data Research & Annotation SpecialistSunnyvale, CA (HYBRID)We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Maps Data specialist to support the creation and validation of high-quality Maps data labeling datasets. This role involves active web research, manual annotation, visual quality assurance, and reviewing multiple information sources to assess the accuracy and identity of real-world places and businesses.The ideal candidate is meticulous, unbiased in judgment, and comfortable performing structured and detail-heavy research tasks that require synthesizing information across multiple sources while maintaining a high standard of quality and consistency.---Key Responsibilities- Research specific places and businesses by searching, browsing, and navigating the web to gather authoritative information- Extract and synthesize critical place attributes — including names, addresses, phone numbers, categories, hours, and URLs — from sources such as business websites, review platforms, map services, and social media- Evaluate user reviews and ratings across platforms to assess business identity, uniqueness, and activity status- Examine place images and geospatial imagery (e.g., satellite imagery, street-level imagery) to verify physical presence and characteristics of a location- Perform manual annotation and labeling of place-based datasets, including making judgments on whether two records represent the same or distinct real-world entities- Conduct visual quality assurance (QA) and content review of geospatial imagery- Identify and document inconsistencies such as duplicate records, mismatched attributes, incorrectly merged places, and missing or outdated information- Follow rubric-driven review processes to ensure consistency and standardization across annotators- Maintain high-quality output with a focus on accuracy over speed- Escalate ambiguous or unclear cases to supervisors for further review- Collaborate with team members and leadership to resolve data discrepancies---Required Qualifications- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency in judgment across large volumes of records- Proficiency in English — excellent reading, writing, and web research skills; ability to efficiently locate, evaluate, and synthesize information from multiple online sources- Ability to cross-reference conflicting information across sources and make a reasoned, well-documented judgment- Familiarity with consumer map and local search platforms (e.g., Maps, Yelp, or similar)- Ability to perform repetitive tasks with sustained focus and accuracy- Basic technical proficiency, including:- Spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets, etc.)- Command line usage (e.g., Bash)- Installing packages and running basic scripts- Familiarity with structured review or rubric-based evaluation processes- Ability to remain objective and unbiased when reviewing content---Preferred Qualifications- Experience with map or geospatial data, including navigating satellite imagery and street-level imagery- Experience evaluating place or business data for accuracy, completeness, or duplication- Experience identifying visual inconsistencies or defects in image data- Experience with annotation tools (e.g., Labelbox, CBAT, or similar platforms)- Proficiency in one or more Indian languages — ability to read and interpret place names, reviews, and web content in local scripts is valuable for annotating Indian-market POI data- Familiarity with how POI (Point of Interest) data is structured and used in mapping or local search products- Basic programming experience (e.g., Python)- Experience working with user-generated content such as reviews, ratings, or crowd-sourced place data---Candidate Profile- Recent graduates (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in relevant fields such as Computer Science, Geography, GIS, Information Science, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply- Demonstrates strong analytical thinking and the ability to reconcile ambiguous or contradictory information- Proactive in escalating issues and seeking clarification when needed- Committed to delivering high-quality, accurate work
