Highway Emergency Response Operator (HERO) Austin
Position Description & QualificationsSerco supports the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) by operating the free HERO patrol service program with the purpose of minimizing traffic congestion and improving highway safety by clearing damaged and disabled vehicles and debris from the travel and emergency Lanes, and providing traffic control and scene protection at incidents.You will be part of a team that works closely with TxDOT, local law enforcement and other first responders daily.As a HERO Operator, You Can Expect ToAssist motorists and perform incident management services during assigned shiftsProvide clear and accurate information regarding incidents and the response required using standard protocol to communicate with TMC Operators, law enforcement, ambulance, fire department, or towing services using radio, telephone, CAD, and e-mail.Services include, but are not limited to:Clear lane blocking traffic incidents and assist other emergency and support response personnel as requestedEstablishing traffic control and scene protection using signs, flares, cones, flagging, flashing lights, etc. during major incidentsProviding basic first aid services in accordance with standard and necessary practices until trained emergency responders arrive on the sceneChanging flat tiresAdding air to low tiresAdding gasolineAdding water to radiatorsProviding battery jump startsPerform vehicle push maneuvers when ableCalling for towing service or emergency serviceTransporting stranded motorists to a safe location off the roadwayProviding cell phone serviceProviding drinking water to stranded motoristsTo Be Successful In This Role You Will HaveHigh school diploma or its equivalentValid driver’s license with good driving recordAvailable to work various shifts, weekends, and holidaysAbility to speak English language (Bilingual is plus)Ability to work 12hr shifts to include occasional weekendsAbility to lift/carry 50lbs continuously and up to 100lbs assistedAbility to walk the interstate/patrolled roadways unassisted 10-12hrs a day in all weather conditions while removing debris or placing long-term MOT devicesAbility to safely operate a pickup truck with a 20-30 foot trailer in towPhysically able to access the underside of a vehicleMinimum age requirement of 21This position is contingent upon your ability to pass a preemployment criminal history check and drug screen.Additional Desired Experience And SkillsMinor vehicle maintenance knowledgeIf you are interested in supporting the TxDOT mission and making the roadways safer for the travelling public, submit your application now for consideration.Company OverviewSerco Inc.
