District Leader In Training (Bluffton/Beaufort)
The District Leader in Training's responsibility is to enhance and develop their skills to successfully lead, plan, organize, and control the activities in preparation for a promotion to District Leader. Although assigned to a specific location and serving primarily as a Store Leader, they will often be called upon to cover District Leader vacations, gaining invaluable experience as they prepare for promotion to District Leader.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESResponsibilities:Store Financial PerformanceAccountable to achieve financial operating plan to include controllable costs, sales projections, and operating profit for districtResponsible for operational systems and procedures designed to effect control of the stores costs, shrink and expensesResponsible for achieving short and long-term sales goals and action plans to maximize revenue projectionsHold management accountable to utilizes company systems and procedures designed to control expenses and manage inventoryPeriodically audit pricing, promos, voids and waste at each store. Assists management in identifying trends and is proactive in finding resolutionTake corrective action to prevent or resolve inventory losses caused by employee or vendor theft and accounting errorsMaintain budget targets with shrink, labor, supplies, cash and lotteryHold store leaders to follow a labor budget specific to each store based on established labor model, sales history and current trendsComplete daily, weekly and monthly reports as required for position; analyzes the details to identify trendsMarketing, Merchandising and Community RelationsWork with marketing department to achieve sales objectives, programming and inventory turns at each locationTrain and hold stores accountable to implement product launch plans in coordination with the marketing departments' planning calendar; ensures the availability of promotional itemsTrain and motivate the management team to drive sales plans, programs and promotions to meet stores objectivesMakes certain store display set up is in accordance with plan-o-grams and merchandising requirements set by the companyEnsure merchandise is displayed for great brand presentation through strategic merchandising techniques set by the companyOversee in-store promotions and customer appreciation events as requested by the companyEnsure consistent company image throughout all promotional materials and eventsAssist in building community relations throughout region to maintain brand reputation and involvement within local neighborhoodsCommunicate with Director of Operations and Director of Marketing regarding any marketing or promotional activities before implementationConduct competitive analyses through gas and merchandise surveysMaintain communication with field operations and managementSpeak honesty and act with integrity at all timesEffectively communicate pertinent information to staff and management teams; encourages open communication and feedbackEarn the trust of others through open, honest communication and follow throughFacilitate meeting with store leaders a minimum of one time each monthProactively communicate operational openings of each store to Human Resources and assists in the hiring process for store leadership and employees as neededComplete store roster each week to confirm there are no ghost employees and pass codes are secureWork with Director of Human Resources to ensure that employees disciplinary action is fair and equitable, consistently administered, and all necessary progressive discipline documentation is completed prior to terminationComplete status/payroll change form for all compensation changes and management transfers to Human Resources within the same week of the effective dateCoaching, development, performance and morale of management teams and staffMake certain employee applications, interview guides, reference check forms and all other personnel information are kept in a secured location at each storeLead by example in following established recruiting, interviewing and hiring procedures and holds direct reports responsible to do the sameEnsure established company new hire orientation and training programs are completed and utilized to standardCoach management on how to determine appropriate staffing levels within the store to ensure great customer service while managing labor costsSupervise the performance and development of store leaders and other leadership positions by periodically providing feedback to improve performance levels; administers corrective action documentation as neededConduct management performance evaluations and ensures employee reviews are conducted timely as required by company standardsAct as company representative at all times and is perceived as being a positive moral force, as judged by peers and subordinatesFocus on the retention of quality employees and management by providing opportunities for growth and development; makes employee development a priorityProvide personal recognition of employees and store leadership to reward their contributions toward goals and company objectivesProvide a leadership climate which promotes fair and consistent application of company policies and proceduresMake recommendations which are "given particular weight" for hiring and firing other employees within the respective storeProvide "added value" to the store through building relationships, supervising, coaching, and mentoring of staffCustomer ServiceLead by example by acknowledging and greeting all customers as they enter the storeInteract with guests and employees in a respectful, courteous manner, creating a friendly atmosphereCoach store leadership and employees on how to properly handle customer complaints and provide exceptional levels of serviceHold employees accountable to adhere to federal, state and local laws regarding alcohol and tobacco salesRespond to customer complaints within 24 hours and completes investigation into incidents with a sense of urgencyFacilitate store walks each week to verify compliance with company procedures, store cleanliness and customer service levels; insists on high standardsManagement and Leadership responsibilitiesSupport the team with a hands on management style and leads with a sense of urgency and purposeComplete a minimum of one pm drive by at each location a minimum of once per monthComplete checklist each day while visiting the stores to monitor key controllable areas and submits to DO for reviewCollect and forwards competitive activity to managementComplete responsibilities within established deadlines and maintains commitmentsCustomarily exercises discretion and independent judgment to ensure sound operationsPerform "concurrent duties" of non-exempt tasks during appropriate times.Hold employees responsible to complete shift checklists, store walk's cleaning projects and ensures the completion of tasksDirect employees to maintain clear aisles and walkways in compliance with ADA Title III requirementsAdhere to company safety and security practices at all timesAudit stores to assure proper ringing, reporting and accounting of all sales, including merchandise, gasoline, lottery, coupons, and gift cardsHold management and employees accountable to practice sanitary and safe food handling procedures at all timesCompliance to company standards, systems, procedures, and policiesAccountable to act with integrity, adhere to company expectations of performance and behavior; abide by work rules and demonstrate high standards of moral and ethical conduct at all timesAbide by company policies and procedures as established in the Employee Handbook and Training MaterialsMake certain company safety, robbery prevention and security procedures are communicated and practiced by all employees while performing their work dutiesEnsure employees have an excellent personal appearance by following uniform guidelines and personal hygiene standards by being in a clean uniform prior to the start of each shiftMust be reliable and punctual in reporting to work as scheduled; Enforces company time and attendance policyMay not sign contracts on behalf of the companyReview disciplinary documentation with Human Resources prior to any employee separationMaintain confidentiality of all company information, is forthcoming in reporting all policy and procedural violations and any wrongdoing Management or Human ResourcesResponsible to ensure the completion of all required documentation in compliance with payroll, state and federal labor laws, and company personnel policiesMay only make expenditures from vendors for authorized items in Pricebook for normal store operations.
