Physical Therapists work closely with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and rehabilitation teams to develop individualized treatment plans for patients across various healthcare settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, home health, and schools. Key Responsibilities Evaluate patients’ physical condition, mobility, strength, balance, and functional abilities. Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient goals and physician referrals. Provide therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, gait training, stretching, and mobility interventions. Educate patients and families on recovery, injury prevention, posture, and home exercise programs. Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as needed. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and progress notes. Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care. Use rehabilitation equipment and therapeutic modalities safely and effectively. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, infection control, and patient safety standards. Assist patients recovering from surgeries, neurological conditions, orthopedic injuries, sports injuries, and chronic illnesses. Requirements Education Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited program required. Current state Physical Therapist license required. CPR/BLS certification required. Experience Previous clinical or rehabilitation experience preferred. Experience in outpatient, inpatient, orthopedic, neurological, pediatric, geriatric, or sports therapy settings may be preferred depending on facility needs. Travel PT positions may require prior travel or acute care experience. Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and rehabilitation techniques. Excellent patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate and educate patients effectively. Time management and documentation skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems. Preferred Qualifications Specialty certifications such as Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS), or Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS). Experience with manual therapy techniques and therapeutic modalities. Multilingual communication skills are a plus. Ability to lift and transfer patients safely. Frequent physical activity and mobility required. Typical Schedule Full-time, part-time, PRN, or travel assignments available. Day shifts most common; some weekend or holiday coverage may be required depending on facility. Compensation Compensation varies by location, specialty, experience, and facility type.
