Job SummaryResponsible for the safe, efficient and uninterrupted provision of roll paper stock to the web press and to assist in press make-ready and operation as directed by the First Press Operator.Duties/ResponsibilitiesInspect job ticket to assure that all necessary paper stock information is present prior to beginning make-ready.Inspect paper to assure conformance to specified requirements.Understand paper codes and warehouse operations.Preparation of rolls and set up roll stand.Neatly wrap unused rolls and return to warehouse.Complete necessary paperwork accurately.Maintain the following: Chemistry and supply of water system, silicone and softener supply, chemical rag inventory in the press area, ink inventory and ink levels in the fountains.Complete the Green Press Quality Control Sheet at the start of all press forms. All lines on the check-off list must be accurately completed to assure that the press form is being produced correctly. The Press Quality Control Sheet and the press form must be given to the first press operator upon completion.When samples are being pulled, the Rolltender is responsible to take 2 pulls and must inspect them for any defects. If defects are found, he/she should immediately tell the lead press operator. After inspecting the samples, sign, date, write the current count, and put them in the box located by the stacker machine.Responsible for assisting Press Operator with wash ups, set ups, changeovers, make-readies and maintenance.Weigh strip and core waste.Complete everything listed on the Rolltender’s checklist by the end of each shift.Assist the 2nd Press Operator.Keep work area clean and orderly.Follow all required Safety Procedures such as: PPE Requirements, Ergonomics, Chemical Hazards, etc.Perform job in a manner that protects the health and safety of all employees.Prompt and regular attendance.Basic QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability requiredA High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred but not required.One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Physical RequirementsThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.Mandatory hearing protection while in the plantMandatory safety shoes while working on production floorPress Department personnel are exposed to a number of chemicals including ink and blanket wash.Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and chemical protective gloves are required with use of any chemicals.Required standing for the majority of the shift.Dust exposure in the Bailer Room.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and talk or hear.
