We also seek to attract culturally and academically diverse faculty who value working with diverse students.SalarySalary and rank commensurate with education and experienceJob Summary/Basic FunctionThe Department of English at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) dual enrollment faculty position (#712090) at the rank of Lecturer. This is a one-year temporary appointment. The contract may be renewed annually based on available funding, demonstrated need, and satisfactory performance as assessed by annual evaluations. The appointment start date is August 1, 2026.The successful candidate will teach sections of dual enrollment English at Sumner County area high schools, as needed, to meet a full-time teaching workload. The sections will be offered as part of the normal high school course schedule. The successful candidate must communicate regularly with the high school administration, the Director of General Education for English, and the Department Chair at MTSU to coordinate planned course activities with the high school calendar.Required EducationApplicants must meet at least one of the following three-degree requirements: Master of Arts in any of the following disciplines: English, English Literature, Linguistics, Rhetoric/Composition, Professional/Technical Writing Master of Fine Arts in Creative WritingMaster of Arts in a closely related field with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in classes with English, Linguistics, and/or Technical Writing prefixes.Required Related ExperienceApplicants must also have completed at least three (3) hours of graduate-level coursework focusing on writing pedagogy or demonstrate at least one (1) semester of experience teaching English at a university or college.Other DesirablesApplicants with the following will receive special consideration: a PhD in English, English Literature, Linguistics, Rhetoric/Composition, or Professional/Technical Writing; at least one semester of experience teaching dual-enrollment English classes.Documents Needed to ApplyTo be considered, applicants must submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, and a statement of teaching philosophy.Special Instruction to Applicants For more information about serving as a faculty member at Middle Tennessee State University, please visit our faculty recruitment webpage at https://mtsu.edu/facultyrecruitment/.If you need help with the application process, please contact Mitzi Dunkley, Faculty Recruitment Specialist, at (615) 898-5128.
