Introduction MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. Pershing Rd.Cicero, IL. 60804Description:The Monitoring & Research Department of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (the District) is seeking an intern to support its microplastics research efforts. The primary responsibility of the intern will be to learn from and assist a research scientist in microplastics sampling and analysis.The intern's work will involve collecting wastewater samples, compiling and organizing data, and conducting microplastics analyses using microscopy and other laboratory techniques. Through this role, the intern will develop skills in proper sample collection, microscopy-based identification, data management to support scientific interpretation, and effective collaboration with laboratory staff.Because microplastics research is an emerging and rapidly evolving field that requires extensive laboratory work, the intern will gain valuable handson experience and foundational knowledge in a growing area of environmental science.Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:Completion of at least one laboratory course in environmental science, engineering, chemistry, or biologyA minimum of two years of coursework in one or more of these fieldsFamiliarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with basic data analysis skillsEducational Requirements:Applicants must be a current graduate or undergraduate student seeking a degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or Biology.
