1st Class Outside Machinist

Job Description POSITION OVERVIEW We are seeking a dedicated Outside Machinist with at least 5 years of marine experience within a similar position. The candidate willassemble, install, and maintain complex mechanical systems typically found in marine environments.REQUIREMENTS Minimum of 5years of marine experience within a similar positionSKILLS Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawingsKnowledge of system start-up procedures and machinery plant operationsGood problem-solving skills and attention to detailAbility to work independently or as part of a teamEffective communication skills to collaborate with other team members and departmentsKnowledgeable of some aspects of air controls and tubing bendingAble to read and interpret standard construction drawings, specifications, and other technical publicationsGood working knowledge of system start-up procedures, propulsion system alignment, and machinery plantsFamiliar with all aspects of craft-specific marine construction from design through installation and operational testingVersed in applicable commercial and military specifications and standardsKnowledge of how to use tools and equipment (e.g., magnetic base drills, portable machining equipment, chain falls, jacks, etc.)Have some sort of experience or background in weldingRESPONSIBILITIES Determines methods of fabrication, assembly, and installation of various machinery and equipmentInstalls ship machinery such as propelling machinery and auxiliary motors using blueprints and hand toolsLays out passage holes on bulkheads, decks, and other surfaces for connectionsPerforms necessary machine work including dismantling, repairing, and reassembling of light and heavy machineryObtains a series of accurate measurements and subsequently positions equipment to precise tolerancesDrills and secures the installed piece of equipment into placeCleans up and maintains assigned work area3-5 years
