instruction and student interactions from a Christian worldviewCollaborate with grade-level teams and department members to plan and implement the school’s liberal arts curriculumActively ensure academic growth in every student by utilizing a variety of instructional techniquesBuild positive partnership with parents through proactive communicationCreate a predictable and supportive classroom environmentIncrease professional knowledge by participating in professional development opportunitiesPlan and develop engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices for visual arts instruction, and prepare daily and weekly lesson plans to help students meet the learning goals Follow through on routine job responsibilities including grading, record keeping, attendance, and lesson planningMaintain knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in middle school and upper school art educationParticipate in collaborative evaluation processes with Division Head and Vice President for Academic AffairsAttend weekly faculty meetingsBe involved in at least one co- or extra-curricular responsibilityAttend school events outside regular school hours including, but not limited to Parent/Teacher Conferences, Curriculum Night, arts performances, student socials, open houses, and professional development sessionsMaintain a learning environment that is organized and pleasant in appearanceMonitor halls, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staffEnforce safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitorsPerform other related duties as assignedSpecific Duties And ResponsibilitiesBuild partnership with parents through proactive communication, attendance, and execution of events such as the Evening of Artists that may occur outside school hoursInventory curriculum and supplies and manage the art budget under the oversight of the supervisor, requisitioning supplies as needed and approvedCollaborate with Fine Arts Department to develop and coordinate specific plans for implementing school curriculum and policy Knowledge of art education differentiated instructionCurate and collaborate with other Bear Creek art educators for the school-wide art show, Evening of ArtistsResearch art processes, techniques, and projects that encourage creative critical thinking, creative problem solving, and art-making techniques that range from all levels of art learning (beginners to advanced) in one classroom settingInstruct students in the digital arts of photography, film and animation, and graphic designProvide opportunities for students to showcase their art at upcoming art contests and community art showsRequirementsBachelor’s degree requiredA degree in art education also preferredTeaching credential preferredThorough understanding of pedagogy and the best practices of educationDesire to teach middle or upper school-aged children and ability to adapt to their developmental statusAbility to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and researchUnderstanding of portfolio process and building an art portfolio for students interested in continued education at universityFoundational knowledge of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, with intermediate skill in drawing and various art making techniquesStrong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroomProficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Photoshop or related softwareFamiliarity or experience with a Christian classical model preferredHold CPR/AED/First Aid certification (with epinephrine autoinjector supplement) or obtain certification within 90 days of employment start dateCurrently authorized to work in the United States for any employer (sponsorship not available for this position)Critical
