It has raised more than $200 million and is experiencing significant revenue and team growth.The engineering organization is expected to grow from approximately 40 to 75 engineers, creating an immediate need for technically strong leaders who can build teams while remaining closely involved in technical strategy and decision-making.The company’s name will be shared with qualified candidates during the recruiting process.The Role:The Engineering Manager will lead and scale a product or platform engineering team.This is not a purely administrative management position. You will initially lead approximately five to seven engineers while remaining involved in technical strategy, architecture reviews, system design, and critical engineering decisions.The ideal candidate is a strong former senior engineer or technical lead who has moved into engineering management and still enjoys operating close to the technical work.What You’ll Do:Lead, mentor, and develop a team of approximately five to seven software engineers.Help grow and scale the team as the engineering organization expands.Provide technical direction during architecture reviews, system design discussions, and major engineering decisions.Partner closely with product, engineering leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders.Establish strong engineering practices while maintaining the speed required in a high-growth startup.Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development.Guide the delivery of reliable, production-grade products and platforms.Balance technical quality, product priorities, business needs, and delivery timelines.Help shape the long-term structure and leadership practices of the engineering organization.Required Qualifications:Five or more years of professional software engineering experience (Internship or boot camps do not count towards this number).Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a STEM field.Two or more years of experience as an Engineering Manager or in a comparable people-management role.Recent hands-on experience as a Senior Software Engineer, Staff Engineer, Technical Lead, or technically engaged Engineering Manager.Experience building, scaling, and supporting production-grade software systems.Strong system design, architecture review, and technical decision-making capabilities.Experience leading engineers within a growing startup or similarly fast-moving environment.Demonstrated ability to hire, coach, and develop high-performing engineering teams.Experience operating within an established engineering organization.Ability to work from the company’s San Francisco office four days per week.Candidates with proven high-growth startup experience and product engineering impact.Hands-on Full-Stack track record with recent, quantifiable coding contributions; candidates must actively contribute to code (~20% coding time).Candidates who have recently managed 10+ engineers for at least 2-3 years, ensuring deep hands-on leadership in evolving product environments.Preferred Qualifications:Experience shipping AI-powered products, AI agents, voice-based products, or conversational AI systems.Experience leading product or platform engineering teams.Experience at both a high-performing technology company and a startup with meaningful traction.Experience helping an engineering organization scale through rapid growth.Experience as a founder, early-stage engineer, or technical leader responsible for building a product from zero to one.Interest in healthcare, patient access, or improving the healthcare experience.Previous healthcare industry experience is not required.Backgrounds That May Be Less Aligned:This position may not be the right fit for candidates whose experience has focused exclusively on:Mobile application development.Deep infrastructure without broader product or platform engineering exposure.Pure machine-learning research.Large technology companies without meaningful startup or high-growth experience.People management without recent involvement in architecture, system design, or technical decision-making.Location Requirements:Candidates must already be able to commute reliably to San Francisco or be willing to relocate.Candidates based in the South Bay should have a demonstrated history of successfully commuting to San Francisco and be comfortable meeting the four-day on-site requirement.CompensationFinal compensation will depend on the candidate’s experience, technical depth, previous management scope, and the level at which the candidate is hired. Compensation, benefits, and equity will be determined by the hiring company.Visa:The company may consider candidates who require an eligible visa transfer, extension, or employment-based immigration support.Candidates requiring entry into a new visa lottery may not be eligible.
