Deputy Communications Director — ACLU of Florida (Senior Leadership Role)The ACLU of Florida is seeking a senior leadership communications professional to help shape the organization’s public narrative, guide media strategy, and strengthen statewide communications infrastructure. This role reports directly to the Communications Director and serves as their key strategic partner.The Deputy Communications Director leads a team of communications professionals driving wide‑ranging, geographically focused media strategies across issue areas including First Amendment freedoms, equality, justice & dignity rights, and democracy & accountability. The role provides day‑to‑day operational leadership while also serving as a senior strategist—developing communications plans, advising leadership, managing crisis response, and building the systems and talent that sustain long‑term organizational capacity.This is fundamentally a people leadership and organizational management role. The Deputy Communications Director applies deep communications expertise through coaching, mentoring, and developing staff; strengthening cross‑departmental relationships; and driving department‑wide strategy with a high degree of autonomy and independent judgment.Key responsibilities include:Leading strategy for multi‑platform communications across core civil liberties issue areasManaging and developing a high‑performing team of strategists and digital professionalsDriving earned, owned, and digital media to support advocacy, litigation, and public educationServing as senior counsel on narrative, message framing, and crisis communicationsOverseeing content including press materials, op‑eds, statements, and strategic messagingBuilding media relationships at the local, state, and national levelsStrengthening systems for measurement, collaboration, and cross‑departmental alignmentIdeal candidates bring:5+ years of progressive communications experience, including 3+ in leadershipExpertise in advocacy, nonprofit, political, or government communicationsExceptional writing and editorial judgmentExperience managing staff and leading integrated campaignsCommitment to civil liberties, racial justice, and equitySalary range: $93,000–$125,000, plus a generous benefits package.The ACLU of Florida offers a generous total rewards program including but not limited to:Comprehensive employer paid health benefits package with individual employee coverage 100%Employer paid life, long-term and short-term disability insuranceUp to twelve weeks of paid medical leave after one year’s serviceDefined Contribution 401K Retirement Plan with employer match5 weeks of paid vacation13 paid holidays and 2 personal days12 sick daysAnnual wellness allotmentProfessional development and access to educational platformsEmployee Resource GroupsAdditional subscription services and wellness toolsAll attachments should be in Microsoft Word or PDF format.Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
