SUMMER CAMP COORDINATOR PTClayton County, Georgia Classification Specification Parks and RecreationCLASSIFICATION TITLE: SUMMER CAMP COORDINATOR (PART-TIME) SEASONALA seasonal part-time Summer Camp Coordinator oversees day-to-day camp operations, supports staff, and ensures a safe, engaging environment for campers throughout the summer session.PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION:The purpose of this role is to assist with planning and coordinating daily camp activities, supervising counselors, and maintain a safe, positive program that aligns with the camp's mission and policies. The position also serves as an on-site leader for problem solving, parent communication, and implementing behavior management and safety procedures. Essential job duties: Assists with planning, organizing, and overseeing daily and weekly camp schedules, activities, and special events. Supervise and support camp counselors, including coaching, giving feedback, and helping with staff scheduling. Assist in the coordination of logistics such as room/space use, field trips, transitions, and equipment or supply needs. Communicate with parents/guardians at check-in/check-out and as needed regarding camper issues, activities, and incidents. Assist with the monitoring of camper behavior, the implementation of behavior management strategies, and assist with mediating disputes between campers. Maintain accurate records such as attendance, incident reports, allergy/dietary information, and other required documentation. Ensure camp areas are clean, organized, and set up appropriately for scheduled activities. Provide on-site leadership that ensures camper safety, adherence to policies, and appropriate supervision ratios at all times. Actively observe programs and staff, intervening when necessary to correct safety, behavior, or program quality issues. Respond to emergencies, follow emergency procedures, and support staff in implementing first aid and safety protocols. Model professional conduct, positive attitude, and inclusive, respectful interactions with youth, families, and staff.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college level coursework in recreation preferred; supplemented by three (3) years previous experience working/ and or training in youth programs or camps, with some leadership experience preferred. Knowledge of age-appropriate programming, group management, and positive behavior strategies. Current First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain before camp); additional safety certifications may be preferred. Ability to work the full camp season, including required training sessions, with flexible hours as needed. Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills, including the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license and an original social security card.ADA COMPLIANCEPhysical Ability: Task require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combinations of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds.)Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture and visual cues or signals.
