The City of Hampton is seeking an experienced Traffic Signal Electronic Technician to help power and maintain the infrastructure that keeps our roadways safe and efficient.In this highly skilled role, you will perform advanced electronic and electrical work, including the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of traffic signal control equipment and related systems. This position also plays a key training role, sharing technical expertise with others and ensuring best practices are consistently applied. Working under general supervision and established procedures, you’ll independently determine how and when to complete assigned tasks, balancing technical knowledge, safety standards, and operational efficiency to support the City’s transportation network.Minimum RequirementsRequires high school graduation or GED, supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college in electronics or a related field of study. Requires a minimum of three years of full-time equivalent experience in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electronic systems and in traffic signal electronics work or closely related experience. This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy. Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion. Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B within 180 days of employment. Must have the ability to be IMSA Signal certified and do so within 18 months of hire date; work zone certified within 6 months of hire date. Additional RequirementsRequires effective communication with internal and external customers. Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft word, Outlook and Excel Spreadsheets. May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends.
