Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Concrete Superintendent to lead and manage all on-site concrete operations for ground-up and renovation projects. The Concrete Superintendent will oversee crews and subcontractors, coordinate pour sequencing, enforce quality control and safety standards, and ensure schedules and budgets are met. This role requires strong technical knowledge of concrete construction, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to read and interpret construction documents.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, schedule, and supervise all concrete activities including formwork, rebar placement, concrete placement, finishing, and curing on ground-up and repair projects.
Coordinate daily and weekly pour sequences with project managers, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and testing labs to ensure timely deliveries and efficient workflow.
Inspect and verify formwork, shoring, reinforcement, embed placement, and edge details prior to concrete placement; sign off on readiness for pours.
Manage on-site concrete quality control: monitor mix designs, slump tests, cylinder sampling, surface tolerances, and curing procedures to meet project specifications.
Enforce and model safe work practices in compliance with OSHA and site-specific safety programs; conduct toolbox talks and site safety inspections.
Supervise, train, and mentor foremen, leads, and craft labor; establish clear expectations and performance feedback.
Maintain project documentation including daily reports, pour logs, RFIs, change directives, inspection records, and photo documentation.
Monitor labor and equipment productivity; identify delays or inefficiencies and implement corrective actions to keep the schedule and budget on track.
Coordinate material ordering, deliveries, and on-site storage to prevent shortages or delays; verify material compliance with specifications.
Facilitate pre-pour meetings, resolve field conflicts, and work with design teams to implement constructible solutions when issues arise.
Qualifications
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on concrete construction experience with at least 3 years in a superintendent or lead superintendent role on commercial or industrial projects.
Proven experience on ground-up concrete projects including slabs-on-grade, structural slabs, columns, walls, foundations, and elevated slab systems.
Strong technical knowledge of formwork, shoring, rebar placement, concrete mix behavior, finishing techniques, curing methods, and concrete testing protocols.
Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, structural details, and shop drawings; experience issuing RFIs and coordinating revisions.
Demonstrated leadership, communication, and team-management skills; ability to supervise multiple crews and subcontractors.
Proficient with scheduling and construction management software (e.g., MS Project, Procore, PlanGrid or similar) and Microsoft Office.
OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred; ACI concrete testing or flatwork certifications a plus; valid driver's license required.
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, physical capability to be on-site for extended periods, and willingness to work flexible hours to support pours and project needs.
