Mechanical Engineer (Propulsion/Fluids)

Overview In this role you own the mechanical design of spacecraft propulsion hardware, guiding end-to-end development from concept to flight readiness. You will work with propulsion, thermal, avionics, and systems teams to deliver robust, production-ready hardware for launch and on-orbit operations. You’ll address performance, safety, and environmental constraints through design, analysis, and testing, ensuring reliable propulsion across mission phases. Compensation / Benefitsequity in Apexcomprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, vision)15–20 days PTO plus holidays401(k) with employer matchparenteal leave and childcare supportdaily catered lunch ResponsibilitiesOwn mechanical design of propulsion system hardware and integration into propulsion modules (thrusters, PPUs, manifolds, flow control hardware, high-pressure lines, tanks)Perform analysis and testing to meet propulsion subsystem requirements under performance, safety, and environmental constraintsDesign propulsion module structures, housings, plasma-facing components, mounts, thermal straps, and interfacesConduct structural and vibration analyses for launch loads, thermal cycling, and long-duration on-orbit operationGenerate and maintain CAD models, drawings, and GD&T for flight hardwareSupport manufacturing, assembly, and integration of propulsion and fluid hardwarePlan and execute propulsion hardware testing (vacuum, performance, leak, proof pressure, vibration, thermal vacuum)Diagnose test anomalies and drive corrective action and design iterationPartner with systems engineering on requirements, margins, and interfacesSupport launch campaigns, on-orbit evaluation, anomaly resolution, and continuous design improvements Key requirementsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field3+ years delivering mechanical and/or fluid system hardwareStrong foundation in fluid mechanics (compressible/rarefied gas flow, pressure drop/flow control, cleanliness)Experience designing and developing pressurized fluid systemsProficiency with CAD tools (NX preferred)Comfortable owning hardware from concept through qualification and flightStrong interpersonal skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teamsCross-functional collaborationProblem-solving and proactive communicationTeam-oriented and adaptableNX CADFluid system design and analysisPropulsion testing in vacuum facilities
