Lead Deployment Engineer

Job Description: Provide technical leadership and deployment support for FAA modernization initiatives, including the nationwide deployment, installation, integration, and operational transition of Terminal Automation Modernization and Replacement (TAMR) systems and associated infrastructure across the National Airspace System (NAS). The Lead Deployment Engineer will serve as an Installation Team Lead responsible for managing field deployment activities, coordinating installation teams, and ensuring successful implementation of FAA automation systems in operational environments.TravelSignificant travel required throughout the United States in support of FAA installations, testing, operational cutovers, and deployment activitiesTravel estimated at 50%-75%ResponsibilitiesDuties include, but are not limited to:Lead and manage installation and deployment activities for FAA TAMR/STARS systems and subsystems at FAA facilities nationwideServe as the Installation Team Lead responsible for overseeing field personnel, coordinating deployment schedules, and managing system implementation activitiesSupport deployment, installation, configuration, integration, and testing of TAMR-related hardware, software, networking, and automation equipmentCoordinate all phases of site implementation activities, including site surveys, readiness assessments, deployment planning, installation, checkout, cutover, and transition supportSupport TAMR equipment installation and modernization efforts across the United StatesCoordinate closely with FAA Program Offices, Engineering Services, Technical Operations (TechOps), Logistics, and local facility stakeholdersEnsure compliance with FAA Installation & Checkout (I&C) procedures, Site Implementation Documents (SIDs), Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Required Installation Drawings (RIDs), and Configuration Management (CM) processesLead on-site system verification, validation, troubleshooting, and operational checkout activitiesSupport engineering-driven system modifications, upgrades, patches, and configuration updatesManage and document site-specific implementation plans, deployment records, installation logs, configuration updates, and status reportingCoordinate deployment timelines, site readiness activities, operational impacts, and contingency planning during system cutoversParticipate in technical coordination meetings (TCMs), engineering reviews, and deployment planning sessionsSupport evaluation and resolution of technical issues, risks, schedule impacts, and operational concerns during deploymentsProvide technical guidance and mentorship to deployment technicians and junior engineering staffInterpret engineering drawings, rack elevation diagrams, power/load requirements, cabling schematics, and technical installation documentationEnsure deployment activities align with FAA safety, security, operational, and airspace impact standardsCollaborate cross-functionally with FAA deployment, logistics, engineering, and training stakeholders to ensure successful operational implementationQualificationsQualified applicants must possess the following skills and qualifications:Extensive experience supporting large-scale system deployments, installations, integration, and technical field operationsExperience serving in a deployment, installation, field engineering, or technical implementation leadership roleExperience managing deployment teams and coordinating multi-site installation activitiesStrong experience with automation equipment deployment and operational system integrationTAMR/STARS program experience strongly preferredStrong understanding of FAA deployment processes, Engineering Services coordination, and operational NAS environmentsKnowledge of FAA Site Implementation Documents (SIDs), Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), and Installation & Checkout (I&C) proceduresExperience with system integration, hardware installation, network troubleshooting, software configuration, and system verification/testingAbility to troubleshoot complex technical issues with minimal supervisionStrong leadership, organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to coordinate site meetings, manage deployment timelines, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholdersExperience working with Program Managers, Engineering Services, FAA stakeholders, and technical SMEsAbility to work independently in dynamic field environments with strong attention to detailUS Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearanceAbility to satisfy FAA resume approval processesEducationMaster of Science degree in an engineering, mathematics, computer science or related discipline with over 10 years of related experienceSubstitutions:Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering, mathematics, computer science or related discipline with at least 15 years of ATC/ATM systems design and development support experienceCavan Solutions is a woman-owned aviation consulting company that combines systems engineering, operational expertise, and government business acumen to realize benefits of the evolving National Airspace System (NAS).Our principals are recognized leaders who successfully managed billion-dollar air traffic system modernization programs;
