Safety Manager

Position Overview:The Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing safety programs and procedures to ensure the safety of all employees and subcontractors. This position will develop, implement, and enforce safety policies, conduct safety training, and monitor compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards. The Safety Manager also works closely with onsite field crews to ensure safety practices and procedures are being implemented. This position acts as a front-line safety professional that conducts safety training, inspections, observations, and investigations and ensures regulatory compliance with OSHA and DOT.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Develop and implement safety programs, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.Inspect jobsites and crews in the field daily to assess safety conditions and recommend corrective actions when needed.Complete jobsite safety assessments and advise crew leaders of deficiencies with improvement action plans.Promote safety and health awareness by initiating and presenting training sessions (i.e., weekly internal safety meeting) and internal communications (memos, newsletters, announcements, etc.)Provide safety training and orientation to new employees and subcontractors.Collaborate with and assist the management team in accomplishing safety and risk management goals.Provide clear documentation of safety-related activities for accurate records.Monitor and maintain adequate supply of personal protective equipment for field employees.Build trust and respect among field personnel to ensure embracement of company safety policies and practices.Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes, and make recommendations for continuous improvement of the company's safety program.Fosters a culture of safety awareness and accountability among employees by promoting safe working practices, recognizing and rewarding safety achievements, and encouraging active participation in safety initiatives.Spends 80% of the time out in the field and 50% traveling to the various interstate jobsites, especially in the early stages of development in the position.Success Factors/Job CompetenciesSelf-Motivated and organized.Detail oriented.Ability to give direction, initiate and motivate change, and establish relationships.Strong time-management skills, accountability, and prioritization of goals and results.Ability to manage through conflict, complexity, and problem solving.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Qualifications required:Bachelor’s degree in health and safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field.3-5 Years’ on-site safety experience.Industry experience in construction and/or telecommunications.In-depth knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and practices for construction.Working knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT).Proficient knowledge with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point), with aptitude to learn new software and systems.Valid Driver License with a personal history of safe driving record and practices.Qualifications preferred:Class A CDL LicenseCertified Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant safety certifications are a plus.Working Conditions / Environment: This position operates in both an office and field environment (20% office and 80% out in the field traveling to the various jobsites).Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting (up to 50 pounds at times), twisting, pushing, pulling, and driving. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and/or rainy spring, summer, fall, and winter (snow and ice) weather, combined with regular work time indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. May be exposed to uncomfortable or distracting sounds or noise levels on sites of projects being managed or coordinated.
