After-School Teacher -Scratch Coding and Python

Hiring for part-time in-person after-school teaching positions Grades K-8 in coding (Scratch, Python), Electrical Engineering and Math at the following locations: Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Sunnyvale, Belmont-Redwood City Classes meet once a week and are held weekly Monday-Friday. Classes start between 1:00 pm and 3:10 pm M-F and last 1.25 hours. Start November through February We will help prepare you to teach the Starfire Way with our on-boarding and training. About us Starfire Education offers in-person after-school enrichment programs in math, coding, and engineering at top-ranked K-8 schools in the S.F. Bay Area. Who we are looking for We are in search of enthusiastic and experienced teachers who will spark students’ interest in STEAM subjects. Starfire teachers facilitate interactive, hands-on, project-based learning through problem-solving for groups of 6-8 students. An excellent part-time opportunity for retired teachers, graduate students, and industry professionals in STEM fields. Logistics ***ONLY ACCEPTING CANDIDATES LOCAL TO THE BAY AREA*** After-school enrichment classes are held on elementary and middle school campuses immediately after-school ends for the day. Classes start between 1:00 pm and 3:10 pm M-F and last 1.25 hours. A class meets once a week, for a period of 8-15 weeks depending on the school calendar. Due to scheduling logistics and restrictions it usually isn't possible to teach more than one class per day. Compensation Compensation depends on skills, experience and commute distance. The hourly range is between $46-$52/hour. Teachers are paid by the length of the class. Class preparation is included in the hourly rate. Benefits We know your time as a STEAM educator is valuable. We have a training program, including individual personal support to assist teachers in being successful in the classroom. Performance Bonuses: Complete training before first class: $50-100 based on quality of submissions. Bonus paid at the completion of the session. Session completion bonus for 100% on time attendance and completing class with favorable reviews, submission of end of the session reviews, and no student drops due to teacher performance: $150 per class. Teacher Responsibilities & Qualifications Qualifications 1+ years of experience working with children ages 5-14 Love teaching ages 5-14 Patient, approachable, and friendly Excellent oral communication skills (Fluent English) Responsibilities Classroom Management Be responsible for your student's safety and supervision at all times Implement CDC, School, and Starfire Education COVID-19 prevention practices Maintain a safe, structured and organized learning environment Encourage positive interpersonal interactions at all times Cultivate a welcoming, interactive, friendly, and collaborative group dynamic Utilize positive behavior management and classroom management techniques Teaching Engage multi-level students in critical thinking and problem-based learning Make learning STEM fun! Engage students in fun classroom activities Prepare for classes (flexible, responsive curriculum provided) Transport classroom materials to and from class Ensure that students are learning in an inclusive, constructive environment Communicate with parents about what students are learning Write end of session student progress reports Professionalism Promptness, punctuality and responsible conduct are requirements when working with children Maintain positive relationships with parents, on-site staff, co-instructors, and school administration Be a positive role model for your students Be a proud representative of your own character as well as Starfire Education We look forward to learning more about you!
