We’re adding a skilled Manual Machinist to our Cumming, GA operation.A day in the lifeYou’ll step into a clean, safety-focused shop where complex pump components arrive for custom rebuilds. Your morning might begin on a Vertical Turret Lathe dialing in concentricity on a large impeller, followed by a precision setup on a horizontal or vertical boring mill to bring a bearing housing to spec. In the afternoon, you’ll interpret a drawing, calculate a bolt circle using geometry you know by heart, verify dimensions with inspection tools, and record those measurements for the team. Throughout the day, you’ll collaborate with engineers and fellow machinists to troubleshoot, optimize procedures, and keep our equipment in peak condition.What you will handleSet up and manually machine custom components for industrial pumps in a job-shop environmentProduce and finish impellers, wear rings, bearing housings, covers, and seals to exact specificationsInterpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and sketches to determine the best machining planPerform precision cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting using manual lathes, Vertical Turret Lathes (VTL), horizontal/vertical boring mills, and ID/OD grindersMeasure critical features and document readings using appropriate inspection equipmentAssess and refine machining procedures to improve efficiency and resultsMaintain machine tools and shop equipment in top working orderFollow Hydro shop safety policies and procedures at all timesWork closely with Engineers, shop personnel, and other Machinists to resolve issues and recommend solutionsWhat sets you up for successStrong shop math; ability to apply geometry for angles, radii, and bolt circlesUnderstanding of feed rates and how adjustments impact quality and throughputExpertise setting up jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clampsProven ability to machine pump shafts 3–10 ft while holding ±0.0005 using a steady restHigh attention to detail, manual/finger dexterity, coordination, and precision controlProficiency in manual machining skillsBackground we're looking for5+ years post-training as a machinist in an industrial setting working on LARGE PARTS with manual machinesTechnical or vocational training in machining; Journeyman status preferredHigh school diploma or equivalentSchedule and benefitsFull-time; expected 40 hours per weekTypical schedule: 8-hour shifts, Monday–Friday; overtime availableCompetitive compensation based on skills and experienceBenefits: 401(k) matching, health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, health savings account, life insurance, paid time off, referral programFree onsite parkingEmployee-focused culture in a clean shop environmentJoin Hydro in Cumming, GA and put your manual machining expertise to work on projects that keep critical industries running.
