Summer Lunch Assistant
WE WILL BE HIRING TWO (2) SUMMER LUNCH ASSISTANTS.At the Thurston County Food Bank, we provide essential food and resources to the community in the spirit of neighbor helping neighbor. One of our core philosophies is prioritizing children because every child deserves access to healthy mealsevery day to grow, learn, and thrive. Over 40% of the individuals we serve are children. Through our Summer Lunch Program, we are able to provide nutritious, fresh meals to children. Last year, our Summer Lunch Program served 10,313 meals to children at 13 community sites!Accessing meals during summer break can be challenging for families with children and teens who rely on school meals during the school year. In partnership with the federal Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), our Summer Lunch Program steps in to help bridge this meal gap. During the summer, we prepare freshly made meals at our Olympia Food Pantry, and serve them at no charge to children at various apartment complexes. In addition to free meals, we offer engaging activities to help boost participation in the program.Position SummaryThe Summer Lunch Assistants will support the TCFB's Summer Lunch Program by serving free meals for kids and creating a fun, welcoming environment for children during the summer.This position coordinates the daily operations of the Summer Lunch van route, delivering free meals to children at several different apartment complexes throughout Thurston County and ensuring that meal services comply with state and federal regulations. Working as a team with interns and volunteers, the Summer Lunch Assistant will help facilitate fun hands-on activities to engage children and encourage participation in the program.Key ResponsibilitiesServe meals to children at sites in accordance with all SFSP regulations, including maintaining accurate documentation of meal counts and food temperaturesFollow established routes and schedules to ensure timely delivery of meals and compliance with food safety rulesDaily setup and breakdown of each meal site, ensuring cleanliness and respect for property management and occupantsCollaborate with interns and volunteers to organize engaging enrichment activitiesAdditional related duties as assigned to make the Summer Lunch Program a successRequired QualificationsEnthusiasm for working with childrenAbility to work with individuals of varying socio-economical, cultural, and ethnic backgroundsComfortable working in hot indoor and outdoor environmentsA valid WA State driver's license and comfortability driving a small company vanA valid WA State Food Workers CardA valid CPR & First Aid CertificateAbility to lift 50 pound boxes on a regular basis. Team lift or equipment should be used over 25 pounds.Desired QualificationsAbility to create a fun environment while following site and food service rulesAbility to work independently, reliably, and communicate about schedule needsResourceful and adaptable to types of tasks giveSelf-starters who are passionate about supporting their community and public serviceBilingual - Spanish speaking helpful but not requiredCOMPUTER/TECHNOLOGY SKILLS/EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE SKILLS:The following is the common technology used in this position and is not all inclusive:Computer literacy including the use of word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Ability to stand and/or kneel for up to 8 hours throughout the day.Ability to lift 50 lbs throughout the day.
