Job Description SummaryThe Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse I reports to the Wound Care Manager. Under limited supervision, the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse I provides an in-depth plan of care for patients in a specialty area of wounds, ostomies and continence for all ages(neonate to adult) throughout the organization for inpatients and outpatients. This role coordinates nursing management and collaborates with other health care providers to implement programmatic changes. This position updates clinical practice based on current research and changes in the age and level of development of patients, with consideration of the needs of patients' families.Minimum Training and Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing and a minimum of three years of applied related clinical work experience as an RN. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide range of groups and individuals. Ability to work in close collaboration with patients, families, physicians and other health disciplines. Knowledge of consultative and operational processes. Because the facility is a 24/7 operation, position may include mandatory participation in various schedules to include on-call, day, evening, night, holiday and/or weekend rotations or coverage.Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Current South Carolina or compact state licensure as a registered nurse. A current CPR card is required; either an American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers card or an American Red Cross Professional Rescuer card. Current WOCNCB, Wound and Ostomy (CWON) or Wound, Ostomy and Continence (WOCN) certification with additional Continence and Foot Care Certification (CFCN) preferred. (Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that can not assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
