Special Education Aide
Job DescriptionThe SPED Educational Aide's main role is to provide targeted instructional support andinterventions to students. Work collaboratively with the Principal, Assistant Principal,teachers, parents, and La Fe staff with a high degree of independent judgment, releasingthe teacher from routine tasks of special education and curriculum needs. Assist withinstructional support and classroom management for individual and small groups ofstudents. Interact with immediate supervisor, teachers and parents, as appropriate.Responsibilities and Duties* Provide assistance to the teacher in selecting, planning, organizing andevaluating classroom instructional materials.* Assists the teacher in implementing and/or assessing student work in addition tomaintaining a student classwork portfolio.* Assists in managing classroom instructional materials and adapting materials tomeet the needs of the student.* Supervises group instructional and social activities which will assist the studentin developing independence.* Assists both regular and SPED teachers as per ARD committeerecommendations in implementing instructional modifications.* Participants in staff development opportunities that ensure professional growthand that are related to legal issues of implementation of an individualeducation/behavior plan of students.* Assist in working with individual student as on a one-to-one basis, with smallgroups and whole class, based on need.Assist students with severe developmental and communication delays, lack of social interaction and behavioral concerns to implement modifications and master individual instructional goals.Assists the teacher during conference period in monitoring the student's IEP, behavior plan, or specified ARD assessments/monitoring requirements.Supervises student's arrival, departure, lunchroom behavior, and playground activities as specified in the student's Individual Education Plan.Assist with testing and scoring objective measurement instruments and work assignments.Assists the teacher in distributing, monitoring, and implementing instructional modifications within the regular education setting.Assists in implementing a Behavior Plan or Counseling Plan within classroom/educational environment.Assists the teacher in preparing for an ARD committee meeting.Perform basic clerical duties, filing and copying in support of instructional needs; help with inventory and maintenance of equipment and administrative records/reports.Attendance of the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.Follow and abide by state, federal, and charter regulations.Other duties as assigned.Other Responsibilities:Present a professional image in grooming and attire as described in Personnel handbook.Follow established safety procedures to perform job duties; support La Fe's/department goals.Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties associated with equal or lower grade position as assigned.Required Skills* Minimum of a High school diploma or GED certification OR forty eight (48)credit hours from an accredited college/university.* Minimum of an Education Aide I certification from the State of Texas* Dedicated to the vision of the parent organization, Centro de Salud Familiar LaFe, Inc. and understands the history and culture of the Segundo Barrio.Capable of following all Special Education procedures and laws.Ability to work with children with disabilities.Ability to read, write and speak English.Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.Capable of instructing students in a supportive manner that addresses multiplelearning styles and special education needs.* Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.Mental and physical Requirements:Maintains emotional control under stress, works with frequent interruptions.Frequent standing; stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; heavy lifting of students. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
