DevOps Engineer
DevOps Engineer · United States or Canada · RemoteAn established software company with a large customer base is hiring an engineer to rebuild how it builds, tests and ships software. The delivery process grew with the product over many years and nobody has had the room to go back and redo it. It works. It is also slower than it should be, failures take a while to attribute, and a few stages still need someone to step in by hand. The hard part is not designing the replacement. It is that delivery cannot pause while you get there, and that the engineers who depend on the current process have to be convinced rather than told. This role owns the rebuild. How code gets built, tested, packaged and deployed, and how fast an engineer finds out when something breaks. Most of it is hands-on building and migrating. The rest is working with the teams affected by those changes.About the roleThe work is already a priority. You are not going to spend your first year making the case that the build matters. New engineering leadership has decided it does, and this role is the result. You are not here to work a queue. If you can show that a change is worth making, you get to make it rather than file a ticket for it.Your users are the engineering team. Improvements show up in their day immediately, and so do mistakes.Fully remote, and the company has worked this way for years. What you'll doDefine environments as code in Terraform on AWS so builds stop depending on machines nobody can rebuildDesign and run CI/CD end to end in GitHub Actions or Jenkins, with testing and security scanning inside the pipeline rather than beside itBuild logging and alerting that tells an engineer what broke and why, within a minuteStandardize how services are built, packaged and deployed with Docker and Kubernetes, so a new service starts from a known path instead of a copied config fileSequence the migration with the teams it affects, starting with what slows them down mostQualifications3+ years in DevOps, SRE or platform engineeringYou have done this on a live system.
