Sr. EHS Engineer

Job Summary The Senior EHS Engineer/Manager independently leads the identification, analysis, and control of occupational hazards across a complex industrial environment. This position applies advanced engineering and safety principles to ensure workplace and product safety, advises on structural and process‑safety requirements, and manages large, multi‑disciplinary EHS initiatives. Responsibilities include regulatory compliance, audits, accident investigations, safety‑system design, and development of policies, training, and contractor‑management programs. Primary Responsibilities Hazard Identification & Control • Lead the identification, analysis, and mitigation of occupational hazards. • Apply engineering and failure‑mode analysis to advise on structural and process safety. • Design and implement protective equipment, safety devices, and engineered controls. Policy, Compliance & Standards • Develop, review, and update occupational safety policies, guidelines, and standards. • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, internal policies, and industrial processes. • Maintain contractor and construction safety management programs. Audits, Investigations & Corrective Actions • Lead internal audits and oversee installation of safety systems and devices. • Conduct investigations of industrial incidents and implement preventive measures. • Review plans and specifications for new equipment, machinery, and facilities. Leadership & Project Management • Manage complex, multi‑disciplinary EHS projects, including team selection, budgeting, and deliverables. • Lead safety integration efforts during corporate acquisitions. • Coordinate resources across departments and forecast project requirements. Training & Communication • Develop and deliver safety training programs; evaluate effectiveness and compliance. • Prepare reports and communicate findings from inspections, audits, and investigations. Job Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in safety science, engineering, or a related field. • Professional certifications (CSP, CIH, or equivalent) preferred. • Graduate‑level degree strongly desired. • Ten or more years of experience in a safety‑related discipline, ideally in heavy manufacturing. • Demonstrated success leading large, complex, cross‑functional EHS projects. • Recognized subject‑matter expertise in occupational safety and hazard control. Additional Expectations • Promote and maintain a safe workplace and support environmental stewardship. • Interpret internal and external business issues to recommend best practices. • Manage project budgets and control costs within assigned areas. • Coordinate effectively with teams across multiple disciplines and organizational levels.
