The Assistant EHS Manager eliminates or controls hazardous conditions from human error, equipment, and machine operations. The role applies advanced mathematical techniques, professional engineering principles, safety science, ergonomics, psychology, physiology, and safety principles, standards, practices, and analytical techniques.ResponsibilitiesPerform independent routine walk-through inspections of construction areas on projectsConduct routine EHS audits and inspections on projects using DAVIS-provided softwareAssemble and deliver project startup safety packages for new projectsAssist teams in determining project signage and posting needsLead project EHS kick-off meetings with project teamPrepare and present content for internal project team meetings and trade partner meetingsPrepare and review JHAs for high hazard activitiesConduct crane plan reviewComplete monthly project EHS assessment; review with project teamRecord weekly hours worked for all assigned projects for OSHA trackingProvide information and documentation for weekly incident logCompile open issues reports and communication for the project teamsVerify and close all identified hazards on project sitesResearch and collaborate to obtain information for EHS related issuesParticipate in OSHA inspections and consultationsConduct personal injury and property damage accident investigations; compile data, photographs, and other documentationWork with subcontractors to develop satisfactory safety compliance on projectsDevelop and apply practical solutions for project safety issuesIdentify special protective and safety equipment needs for projectsProvide instruction for DAVIS Competent Person and other EHS related classesDevelop EHS courses and create contentEnforce EHS regulations with subcontractors and DAVIS personnelHelp develop corporate goals relating to company and project level EHS performanceLead EHS initiatives and business plan itemsIdentify and address high risk activities and trends within the companyHelp develop and update corporate and project EHS policies and proceduresAssist in identification, analysis, and control of occupational hazards requiring specialized knowledge, skill and abilitiesReview proposed occupational safety policies, guidelines, and standards for consistency, recommend technical changesApply knowledge of psychological and physiological factors to assist in installing safety features and controls, compensating for the possibility of human errorsResearch new products and technologiesAssist project teams in planning for high-risk activities and inspection schedulesPerform other duties as assignedCommon AttributesSafety – Consistently works within DAVIS safety standards; promotes safety as a priority with coworkers, subcontractors, and external clientsTeam collaboration – Works effectively within their own team and across the organization; promotes team atmosphere and culture; has a positive, can-do attitudeCommitment to quality – Applies DAVIS standards to produce high quality work on a consistent basis; produces accurate and reliable work, actively demonstrates excellence in service, builds and maintains integrity as a core function of their job and relationshipsChampions DAVIS business – Consistently markets DAVIS business within the scope of their job; actively seeks and/or supports new business opportunities; actively builds relationships and encourages othersQualificationsBachelor's degree in Environmental Health + Safety Sciences or related field; equivalent combinations of technical education and/or industrial related safety experience may substitute2 years of experience in occupational EHS or a related fieldCurrent First Aid, CPR, and AED certificationBCSP credential or equivalentOSHA 30 certificationKnowledge of federal, state, and local regulationsAbility to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measuresDecision making, research, and analytical problem solving skillsTime management with ability to organize, assess, and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands, and work independentlyStrong communication skills; interact effectively at all levels within the organization and externallyConstruction industry experiencePhysical Job DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must reach above and below, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, and occasionally lift/carry/move up to 75 pounds. Manual dexterity to operate office equipment, file, and perform specialized skills. High concentration in a busy office environment.Working ConditionsThe job requires some travel for conferences, educational sessions, and other company events. Noise level in the office is usually moderate. While performing duties, employee may be exposed to higher noise levels and hazardous conditions at job sites.
