Research Engineer – Gas Recovery & Purification Systems

X-wave Innovations, Inc. is seeking experienced engineers and technical specialists to support the design, development, and integration of an advanced Argon Recycling System designed to capture, purify, and recirculate shielding gas from industrial additive manufacturing processes. This role focuses on argon purification, closed-loop gas handling, and intelligent system control to enable high-efficiency, high-purity gas reuse. The position requires multidisciplinary expertise spanning gas separation technologies, pressure vessel systems, and automated process control. US Citizen or Permanent Resident is required.ResponsibilitiesAs the technical expert, you will oversee the design and execution of the following core pillars:Design and optimize argon purification systems, including molecular sieve and filtration architectures for removal of oxygen, nitrogen, moisture, and particulate contaminants.Process Engineering: Design the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) cycles and the associated high-pressure manifold systems, ensuring compliance with relevant safety and pressure vessel standards.Perform system-level modeling and analysis of gas flow, pressure dynamics, and contaminant transport within a closed-loop recycling environment.Develop and implement Equipment Control Algorithms (PID loops, state-machine logic) to manage gas flow, pressure stability, and emergency shut-off protocols.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements, testing protocols, and performance validation strategies.Support prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and iterative design improvements.Document system design, operational procedures, and technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.Required Expertise & SkillsBachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.Experience in one or more of the following areas:Gas separation and purification (e.g., molecular sieves, adsorption systems)Pressurized gas systems or industrial gas handlingFluid dynamics and thermodynamicsControl systems and automationFamiliarity with relevant standards (e.g., ASME pressure vessel codes, gas safety regulations).Experience with modeling tools (e.g., process simulation) or control platforms (e.g., PLC, LabVIEW).Willingness to work hands-on environment.Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with cross-functional teams.QualificationsExperience with inert gas systems in additive manufacturing, welding, or semiconductor industries.2+ years of experience as system engineer. Knowledge of gas purity monitoring (oxygen/moisture sensors, mass spectrometry).Familiarity with close-loop control system and real-time data acquisition.Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, and ability to execute repeatable processes.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and system integration skills. We offer competitive salary along with a full benefit package (e.g., medical/dental/vision insurance, 401K, profit-sharing, paid holidays, vacation, etc.).
