Director of Production

Hi, we’re Speks, a Brooklyn-based product design company creating premium sensory products for teens and adults. We sell globally across wholesale, retail, and DTC, and we’re growing fast.We’re looking for a hands-on Director of Production to lead production execution, factory management, purchasing operations, quality control, and supply chain coordination across the business.This is a senior operational leadership role responsible for building the production function from the ground up, establishing processes, systems, and partnerships to support the company’s next stage of growth. To ensure products are produced on time, meet quality standards, and move efficiently from factory to warehouse across both B2B and DTC channels. You’ll work closely with existing factories, logistics partners, operations, demand planning, customer operations, and leadership to drive operational execution across a growing global business.This is a full-time, in-office role based in DUMBO, Brooklyn.What You’ll DoProduction & Factory LeadershipLead production planning and execution across factories and product linesOwn factory relationships and maintain accountability against production timelines and commitmentsOversee production schedules, purchasing timelines, and shipment readinessCoordinate production priorities across sales, operations, and inventory planning teamsConduct regular performance reviews and develop supplier scorecardsIdentify and onboard new suppliers as neededPurchasing & Supply Chain ManagementOversee purchase order execution and supplier coordinationHelp optimize lead times, MOQ strategy, and production efficiencyCoordinate inbound inventory timing with demand planning and sales.Maintain operational visibility across purchasing, production, and inventory flowSupport operational planning around launches, promotions, and major retail programsQuality Control & Vendor PerformanceLead factory and third-party QC processesMaintain product quality standards across vendors and production runsOversee corrective actions related to quality issues and production defectsMonitor factory performance including quality, responsiveness, and on-time productionDrive continuous improvement across production and QC systemsRetail & Global Distributor ExecutionOversee production execution for major retail accounts including Walmart, Target, Barnes & Noble, international distributors, and other key partnersEnsure products with retailer, distributor, and country-specific requirements in partnership with the sales and demand planning teams.Import & Inbound LogisticsOwn inbound logistics from factory to warehouse (ocean, air, etc.)Coordinate with freight forwarders and logistics partnersEnsure accurate documentation and compliance for importsOptimize transit times and shipping modes (cost vs speed trade-offs)Maintain clear inbound visibility and timelinesLeadership & Operational ImprovementHelp build scalable production and operational systems as the business growsImprove processes, reporting, and operational visibility across production and supply chainMentor and support junior operations and production team membersPartner closely with leadership on operational planning and executionTravel RequirementWillingness to travel internationally (to China) to visit factories, conduct quality reviews, strengthen supplier relationships.What We’re Looking For8-12+ years of experience in production, supply chain, purchasing, or manufacturing operations within consumer productsStrong experience working with overseas manufacturers, especially ChinaDeep understanding of production timelines, factory management, purchasing, and inventory flowExperience managing QC processes, inspections, and vendor accountabilityExperience supporting major retail accounts like Walmart or Target is strongly preferredExperience working with global distributors is a plusStrong organizational, communication, and operational leadership skillsComfortable operating in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environmentProven ability to build processes in growing companiesWhat You’re LikeYou are highly organized and operationally mindedYou proactively identify problems and solve them earlyYou’re a team builder and leaderYou communicate clearly across teams, vendors, and leadershipYou thrive in fast-moving environments with multiple prioritiesWhy You’ll Love Working HereAt Speks, you will join a small, sharp team in a bright DUMBO office.
