This position will report directly to the Controller and plays a key role in helping the company concentrate on Accounting Lean initiatives.DetailWork Location: Headquarters, Shawnee, KSDepartment: AccountingJob Type: Full-time, In-personReports to: ControllerThe following bullet(s) describe the essence of this role:A key part of the accounting team, the Staff Accountant will perform a variety of accounting functions and also look for ways to improve efficiencies and identify waste.Ensures the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of financial data to be used in the planning and decision-making of our organization.The following bullets describe typical daily and weekly activities of this role:Prepare monthly balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.Learning and covering both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable positions, providing full support and suggesting ways to improve processesFile shipping claims and follow up to ensure receipt of refundsCode invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile accounts, and close the monthly books.Reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks.Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.Coordinate with software vendors to maintain accounting software systems; recommend updates to enhance the accounting software.Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.Performs duties with the utmost confidentialityRequired Qualifications for this role:Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting RequiredAdvanced knowledge of ExcelPreferred Qualifications for this role:Experience with Sage or other accounting softwareExperience with Microsoft Office and Google DocsWhat We DoSchier is the leading manufacturer of grease interceptors for commercial kitchens in the United States.
