About The Role: We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer, Mobile QA, to join our App Infrastructure team within the Consumer & Business group. In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and implementation of quality assurance strategies for Coinbase’s native mobile app rewrite, which involves transitioning from React Native to Swift and Kotlin. Your expertise will be instrumental in establishing robust mobile QA infrastructure, automating regression testing, and ensuring that each release meets the highest quality standards before reaching millions of users. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, and design, to define quality metrics, streamline testing processes, and shape the future of mobile app quality at Coinbase. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the technical direction of Coinbase’s mobile platforms and contribute to delivering a faster, more reliable user experience.

Qualifications: 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on mobile test infrastructure. Expertise in architecting automated regression testing systems for native iOS and Android applications. Proficiency in Swift and Kotlin, with the ability to design test frameworks, debug native app behavior, and enforce quality standards. Experience managing QA processes during large-scale platform migrations, including dual-codebase validation and phased rollouts. Strong track record of defining and executing test infrastructure strategies that support multiple engineering teams. Ability to build alignment and secure commitment from cross-team stakeholders on quality and testing standards. Experience with large-scale release management, including managing success metrics and quality dashboards. Familiarity with AI tools and responsible use of generative AI to enhance workflows. Excellent communication, leadership, and mentorship skills, especially in guiding engineers on test architecture and native debugging.

Responsibilities: Own and define the technical strategy for mobile QA infrastructure across Coinbase’s native app rewrite. Design, build, and scale automated test systems for regression, performance validation, and release readiness. Lead QA readiness efforts for phased rollouts, ensuring clarity on success metrics, resourcing, and operational practices. Determine optimal testing approaches by balancing automation and manual testing to maximize efficiency and quality. Partner with engineering leadership, product managers, and designers to establish SLOs and develop quality dashboards for data-driven decision-making. Shape and maintain the QA onboarding playbook for teams transitioning to native development, including setting hiring standards and mentoring engineers. Manage dual-codebase parity validation, phased rollout quality gates, and incident reviews to continuously improve testing practices. Lead cross-team initiatives to uphold quality standards and implement best practices in native app testing. Utilize data and metrics to inform release strategies, balancing speed and quality for optimal user experience.
