HIV Alliance Community Outreach VISTA
This position joins Oregon Health Authority’s statewide AmeriCorps VISTA team at HIV Alliance. The mission of HIV Alliance is to support individuals living with HIV/AIDS and to prevent new HIV infections. To achieve this goal, HIV Alliance offers a range of education, prevention, care, and support services for people living with HIV and communities at increased risk. This position will further the agency’s mission by increasing outreach and engagement of low-income, at-risk, and underserved community members. The VISTA member will strengthen HIV Alliance’s capacity to deliver preventive health services by building trust and awareness within the community and offering valuable recommendations for program improvement. Improving awareness and access to preventative health services alleviates poverty by reducing risks for costly and potentially life-long health issues. The member will receive one-on-one supervision from managers in at least three HIV Alliance departments (education, prevention, and development). The member will also develop expertise in health/healthcare and gain hands-on experience in outreach, public relations, education, community events, and reports. In addition to activities at your individual host site, OHA provides members with project orientation, training and professional development, 5 in-person team meetings per year, and support from VISTA team leaders and project director.
