Join our great people at our great places designing great projects.This OpportunitykW Mission Critical Engineering, a member of WSP USA, is currently initiating a search for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support our Herndon, VA office.As a Senior Mechanical Engineer with us, you will design complex cooling and HVAC systems including air distribution systems, complex chilled water distribution systems, chiller plants, and alternative energy solutions for mission critical facilities.Your ImpactIndependently support the project team during design and construction stages of projectsDesign air distribution, hydronic and automated temperature controls systemsIntegrate complex mechanical engineering requirements into facility designsWork within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawing and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building ownersAttend client meetings and contribute to discussionsCollaborate and coordinate with internal project discipline team members and external vendors and manufacturersCommunicate mechanical engineering concepts and decisions to clients and stakeholdersInteract regularly with clients, which includes maintaining current relationships and developing new relationshipsMentor and train junior engineersTrack and coordinate all mechanical disciplines: HVAC, Energy, Controls, Fire Protection, Fire Alarm, Plumbing, Fuel Oil Storage / Management / DistributionProvide oversight of all aspects of mechanical design, review systems, drawings prior to issuanceParticipate in Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) and Transient Analysis evaluations for existing and new facilities, both internal and external.Select and schedule major equipment, e.g. air handlers, water chillers, fans, pumps, heat exchangers, Fan Walls and CRAHs, cooling distribution units, fluid flow controls, water treatment, etc.Develop project specifications in GIS format, divisions 23, 22, and 25.Survey and evaluate existing conditionsPerform construction administration tasks, e.g. review of contractor submittals, respond to contractor RFIs, and conduct construction site visitsConduct engineering analysis and feasibility assessments for existing and proposed facilities.Prepare and present engineering and technical reports.Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.Who You AreThe ideal candidate has strong communication skills, and an interest in liaising with internal and external design, client, and construction team members. Candidate should be willing to travel to client sites.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with mechanical building systems emphasis5+ years of experience in designing mechanical systems for the high performing, commercial, industrial or mission critical/data center buildingsExcellent interpersonal skills, teamwork, and written and verbal communication skillsProficiency with applicable software including AutoCAD, Revit, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, Pipeflo and other engineering applicationsWorking knowledge of building, mechanical and energy codes and standardsProven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.Preferred QualificationsEIT or Registered Professional Engineer (PE), if eligibleExperience with the analysis and modeling of interior and exterior Computational Fluid Dynamics of airflowMission Critical/Data Center experienceConstruction background experience or understanding of construction sequencing and roles of various construction project stakeholders.#LI-GA1
