PROGRAM SUPPORT SPECIALIST

FUNCTION: The Program Support Specialist provides specialized support to Nowlin Middle School’s 21st Century Community Learning Center program, with a primary focus on academic support, individualized student needs, and strengthening engagement with Spanish-speaking families. The position works closely with school staff, families, and program staff to improve communication, participation, and access to school, Club, and community resources.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES: (not all-inclusive)
• Serve as a bilingual English/Spanish point of support for students and families participating in the Nowlin afterschool program.
• Lead and support outreach, communication, and family engagement efforts with Spanish-speaking families.
• Plan and support culturally responsive family events and engagement opportunities that strengthen family participation in the
program.
• Work with students who need additional academic, behavioral, or program support and coordinate appropriate follow-up with
the Site Director and school support staff.
• Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and other school personnel to strengthen school-day and afterschool connections for
students and families.
• Help identify family needs and connect families to appropriate school, Club, and community resources.
• Support student enrollment, attendance, retention, and re-engagement efforts, including follow-up with families as needed.
• Assist with implementation of 21st CCLC enrichment activities, special events, and program initiatives.
• Provide general program support, including youth supervision, transitions, and behavior support, and step into ratio when
needed.
• Maintain appropriate documentation related to family engagement, student support, and assigned 21st CCLC program
requirements.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and continuous improvement efforts to support high-quality program delivery.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED.
• College coursework required; coursework in Spanish, education, youth development, social services, or a related field
preferred.
• Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish required.
• Demonstrated experience successfully engaging Spanish-speaking families and building family participation.
• Experience providing academic, homework, tutoring, or individualized student support.
• Experience working with middle school youth in a structured school, afterschool, or youth development setting preferred..
• Ability to identify student and family needs and connect individuals to appropriate resources.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when working with student and family information.
• Must pass required pre-employment background checks and clearances; CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

PHYSICAL / WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, and actively engage with youth for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Afterschool school-based environment requiring regular interaction with youth, families, school personnel, and community
partners.
• Ability to work occasional evening family events or special program activities as needed.
