Physical TherapistPlan and provide therapy to students with physical disabilities; assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.QualificationsEducation/CertificationBachelor's degree in physical therapy or related programValid Texas license as a physical therapist granted by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy ExaminersSpecial Knowledge/SkillsEffective communication and interpersonal skillsKnowledge of medical information and indications for physical therapy treatmentSkill in use of tests and measurements for assessing physical functionAbility to administer manual exercises and physical therapy treatmentsAbility to instruct students and manage their behaviorExperienceMinimum of 3 years experience as a physical therapistMajor Responsibilities and DutiesTherapyPlan and provide direct and consultative services consistent with physical therapy goals contained in students' Individual Education Plans (IEP).Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of physical therapy services.Design, construct, and alter equipment; provide students with adaptive equipment and devices.AssessmentAssess students with physical disabilities and determine eligibility for services.Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with interpretations of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with physical disabilities according to district procedures.Adapt or recommend adaptation of the school environment.ConsultationConsult with educational staff regarding the use of specialized equipment and materials.Consult with district and outside personnel including private therapists and other medical staff regarding the physical and medical needs of students.Provide staff development training in assigned schools to help school personnel understand students with physical disabilities.Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.Student ManagementCreate an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level, interests, and needs of the student.Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.Program ManagementDevelop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the physical therapy program and make changes based on the findings.Assist in the selection of equipment and adaptive materials.AdministrationCompile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documentsComply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policyComply with all district and assigned campus routines and regulationsEffectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parentsStay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.Demonstrate integrity and ethics.Display proficient levels of technology applications.Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).Manage and utilize data effectively for systemic process and program analysis.Account for the accuracy and verification of all student program data and reports.Implement data-driven decision making for improvement efforts based on best practices.Manage and utilize policy effectively for maintaining systemic processes and practices.Account for the verification of the correct policy regarding all decisions and correspondence.Implement effective policy-driven decision making.Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assignedWorking ConditionsMental DemandsEffective verbal and written communication; concentration while performing duties; ability to maintain emotional control under stressPhysical Demands/Environmental FactorsFrequent district-wide travel; moderate standing, walking, bending, lifting, carryingTerms: 187 daysStipend: $4,000
