Software Engineer, Agents
Overview:
As a Software Engineer supporting agents, you will design and steer how Nominal's agents operate on the MCP platform, shaping the technical direction for the team. You'll build agent tools and workflows deployed to customers, expand the MCP to empower external agents, and integrate internal company tooling. You will work closely with customer engineers to translate field patterns into scalable capabilities, while instrumenting and refining what you ship. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of AI, hardware, and software, ideal for someone who enjoys ownership and rapid iteration. Responsibilities:
- Build agent tools and workflows deployed to customers, from automated test checks to cross-test investigations
- Expand the Nominal MCP to support more agent capabilities with proper permissions
- Develop integrations for the internal company agent across Nominal tools and teams
- Translate field patterns into reusable capabilities for customers
- Instrument shipped work, read traces, and respond to evals and user feedback
- Collaborate directly with engineers at customer programs to understand real-world workflows
Key requirements:
- 4+ years as a strong backend or full-stack engineer
- Hands-on experience shipping LLM features to real users (prompting, tool design, retrieval, debugging)
- Ability to ship iteratively with speed and good judgment
- Comfort with ambiguity and owning a capability from idea to production
