Rail is already the most fuel-efficient form of land transportation, more than three times as fuel-efficient as trucks, and BNSF is investing to push our emissions reductions even further.This air quality and carbon manager position is a unique opportunity to work with a diverse team of subject-matter experts across the organization to understand and advise on emissions issues impacting the business. In this position, you will work on criteria pollutant & carbon emissions calculations, policy, mitigation and grant programs. You will also work on future innovation projects related to next generation locomotive technologies, facility electrification, and other future innovations. You will work on projects that have visibility across the organization and at parent company Berkshire Hathaway.The ideal candidate will have railroad and/or other transportation experience, as well as technical expertise related to criteria pollutants and GHG emissions, as they relate to rail transportation. The position will involve:Managing regulatory compliance activities related to mobile source emissions reportingManaging and collaborating with internal teams on annual GHG emissions reporting (including validation), including further developing strategies for managing scope 3 emissions sourcesManaging criteria pollutant emissions modeling, including selecting consultants, overseeing their work, and communicating to internal stakeholdersIdentifying and managing Federal and State incentive funding opportunities that further BNSF's innovation priorities, including development and implementation of grant strategiesCollaborating with internal teams to advocate for BNSF in legislation, agency rulemaking and proceedings at the Federal and State levelBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:5 plus years of experience related to the above duties & responsibilitiesCommitment to safety, and sustainable growth, innovation, and complianceExcellent critical listening and clear communicationDemonstrated collaborator with experience working inter-departmentally and with external stakeholders on strategic issuesAbility to handle multiple complex and challenging assignments and projects in a timely and efficient manner.
