As a Software/Firmware Engineer, you will play a key role in design, develop, implement, test, and support software solutions for boiler and water heating control systems, end-of-line production test equipment, internal applications and mobile applications (iOS and Android). This role focuses on improving system performance, maintaining high-quality codebases, and developing control methodologies for current and future products. Join us in this innovative journey, where your expertise and passion will drive the advancement of our high-quality products.What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be: Design and Development:Design, analyze, and develop software solutions and programs in alignment with division and corporate standards and best practicesAnalyze system performance and implement improvements and recommendationsMaintain and enhance existing codebasesDevelop and implement control methodologies for new and existing productsTechnical Evaluation & Continuous Improvement:Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve software and hardware process issuesInvestigate, evaluate and apply new technologies where relevantSpecify reporting and form requirements to support business and operational needsProvide written documentation and knowledge-transfer materialsCollaboration:Collaborate cross-functionally to detect issues and implement effective solutionsTranslate business and operational needs into technical solutionsSupport end-of-production line testing systems and internal programs What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:Required Experience 1-3 years' software development experience with preference of C++including C++ Standard LibrariesExperience with LINUX operating systemsKnowledge of object-oriented design and development principlesKnowledge with SQL and Stored ProceduresPreferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExperience leading or participating in the design and implementation of control systems, including both hardware and software componentsUnderstanding of human-machine interface (HMI) principles and usability considerationsStrong cause-and-effect analytical abilities for troubleshooting and resolving complex technical problemsUnderstand formal software development lifecycle (SDLC) processesDemonstrate ability to bring software products from development through release and into production environmentsSkilled in creating graphical user interfaces (GUI) for control systemsHands-on experience with electro-mechanical systems, including sensors, actuators, signal conditioning, and data acquisition electronicsAbility to read and understand electronic schematics and basic electronic designsExperience using source code repositories such as Git and MercurialFamiliarity with one or more of the following technologies: QT, .NET framework, JavaScript, Python, QML, Java, BASH scripting, and/or FlutterEducation & CertificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field Travel & Working EnvironmentWork in an office environment, able to use a computer, provide oral and written communicationManufacturing Environment frequently requires use of foot and eye protection when in production areasHow we live our cultureOur culture is at the center of what we do and, more importantly, who we are.
