Assistant Data Analyst
Primary Purpose
This role supports data integrity and accuracy across student information technology, human resources, and business systems while assisting with audits, system imports/exports, report distribution, and data inquiries. This role is also responsible for creating data visualizations that help district leaders understand and act on their data. The Assistant Data Analyst will identify discrepancies, support corrective action, and translate routine data requests into clear visual narratives that reveal trends and performance insights.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED required. Coursework or self-directed study in computer science, data engineering, statistics, information systems, or a related technical field is a plus. Equivalent demonstrated ability will be considered in lieu of formal education.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Familiarity with data visualization platforms (Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, or similar) - ability to build and design visual dashboards and reports for non-technical audiences
Working knowledge of spreadsheet software (Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets) to organize, analyze, and present data
Working knowledge of query tools or structured query logic (SQL or similar) for extracting and validating data
Familiarity with Skyward Student and Skyward HR systems preferred; prior experience with Skyward is a plus
Demonstrated interest or experience in scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell, SQL scripting) to improve data workflows and automate visualization updates
Ability to recognize inefficiencies in data processes and propose solutions
Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision; ability to learn new tools quickly through self-directed exploration
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and confidentiality
Knowledge of FERPA and TPIA
Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience
One or more years of experience in data management, administrative data support, or a related field in a school district or similar environment preferred; experience with Skyward Student or Skyward HR a plus.

Reporting and Data Visualization
Create and maintain data visualizations and dashboards that translate raw data into clear, actionable formats for campus and district leadership.
Generate and distribute recurring and ad hoc reports using Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, or similar platforms; understand how to present data in ways that help non-technical audiences understand trends and make decisions.
Assist in maintaining an organized log of visualization and report requests.
Campus and Departmental Support
Assist campus and departmental staff with data questions by providing both raw data and visual context to help them understand their metrics.
Support staff by reinforcing proper data entry procedures to ensure data integrity at the source.
Data Integrity and Auditing
Assist with audits of district data across Skyward Student, Skyward HR, and internal databases to identify inaccuracies or inconsistencies.
Verify data accuracy following imports, uploads, or system updates and communicate findings clearly.
Data Imports and System Support
Assist with scheduled and on-demand data imports between district systems following established procedures.
Review import results and report errors to the supervisor as needed.
Process Improvement
Identify repetitive data tasks and assist in developing automated or streamlined solutions using available tools and scripting languages.
Assist in documenting data workflows and procedures for departmental reference.
Policy, Reports, and Law:
Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of information management and technology.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive student, personnel, and financial data.
Other
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Perform other duties as required by the MIS Coordinator of Executive Director of Technology Operations

Tools/Equipment Used: Hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations; standard office equipment including personal computers and peripherals
