Equipment Operator The Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment of various types to remove branches and tree material from electrical lines. Essential functions include always following and helping enforce safe practices and rules, assisting in preparing equipment and materials for each day's work at the Foreperson's direction, operating equipment as directed by the Foreperson, helping maintain and repair equipment and tools used in operations, assisting other crew members in all aspects of daily activities and taking a leadership role when required, cleaning up and disposing of all debris, setting up barriers, warning signs, flags, markers, etc. to protect employees and the public, keeping informed on new equipment, specifications, standard practices, operating procedures, and customer and company employee relations policies and practices, tracking and reporting mileage to the Foreperson, and performing duties for storm work as needed. Experience requirements include at least 1 to 5 years' prior experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred; previous experience as a General Foreperson preferred. Education requirements include a high school diploma or education equivalent preferred. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include being knowledgeable about the daily maintenance and safe operations of all equipment used, possessing physical strength and good balance to climb into and around mobile equipment, being able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, being able to work outdoors under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions, being able to hear verbal instructions from a distance, being able to obtain and maintain first-aid certification and CPR, being able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), having good vision and being attentive, having and maintaining a Driver's License if hired for a driving position; having and maintaining a CDL and DOT Medical Card to operate any truck over 26,000 lbs., being able to write, read, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information, being able to maintain balance over uneven terrain, being able to communicate with others, having endurance necessary to perform duties throughout a standard eight or ten hour day, and being able to travel out of town for storm restoration work when needed. Work authorization requirements include meeting I-9 requirements.
