As a women-founded and women-led organization, MLV NorCal is committed to building a premier team that excels on the court, leads in the community, and creates a lasting impact for athletes and fans.Position OverviewWe are building a brand from the ground up, and content will define how we show up in culture, community, and sport. The Social & Content Manager will lead the strategy and execution of all social and content efforts for a new professional women's volleyball team in Northern California. This role is responsible for shaping the team's voice, building its digital presence, and creating compelling, culturally relevant content that turns players into personalities, moments into movements, and fans into a community.The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller and strategic content leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and knows how to translate ideas into engaging, platform-native content. They are both a visionary and a hands-on executor, comfortable managing content from concept through publication while collaborating across teams to drive impact, engagement, and growth.What You'll DoDevelop and own the social and content strategy across all platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, YouTube, and emerging channels along with website)Partner with marketing group to develop content for email, SMS and other emerging platformsDefine the brand voice, tone, and content pillars in alignment with overall brand strategyLead day-to-day content planning, creation, and publishing, balancing proactive campaigns with reactive, real-time storytellingManage the content calendar, including game-day coverage, player storytelling, community initiatives, and marketing campaignsCollaborate with and direct the Graphic & Motion Designer to bring content to life visuallyCapture and/or oversee photo and video content across practices, games, and eventsIdentify and activate trends, cultural moments, and real-time opportunities to keep the brand relevant and engagingPartner cross-functionally with marketing, partnerships, ticketing, operations and government affairs / community teams to support business objectivesTrack performance, analyze insights, and continuously optimize content based on data and platform best practicesManage community engagement by responding, interacting, and fostering an authentic fan voiceBuild and scale content processes and workflows as the organization growsDraft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and pitches to local, trade, and national media to secure earned coverageServe as the primary point of contact for external media inquiries, managing incoming requests and coordinating interviews with company leadershipCultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, bloggers, ambassadors, content creators, and industry influencers to increase brand visibilityMonitor media coverage and industry trends to identify proactive PR opportunitiesSupport reputation management efforts, including developing and executing communications plans during sensitive or high profile moments What We're Looking For A highly creative storyteller who thrives at the intersection of sports, culture, and digital mediaExcited by the opportunity to build a brand from the ground up in a startup environmentExperience balancing strategy, execution, and real-time content creationDeeply fluent in social media platforms, internet culture, and what drives engagementStrong editorial instincts with an ability to turn moments into compelling narrativesCollaborative and adaptable mindset, with the ability to work effectively across teamsHighly organized with strong instincts for prioritization in fast-paced environmentsComfortable operating in ambiguity and building structure as you goCreative eye in photography, videography, graphics and overall contentPassionate about sports, community, and shaping a new women's professional sports experience Qualifications 5-7 years of experience in social media, content, PR, communications or digital marketing (sports, entertainment, or lifestyle brands strongly preferred)Proven track record of growing social channels and driving engagementProven experience writing press release and pitching storiesExperience managing creative contributors (designers, videographers, freelancers, or agencies)Strong understanding of content creation tools and platforms; Adobe Creative Suite familiarity a plusAbility to perform in real-time, high-pressure environments (live sports experience a plus)Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate insights into actionExperience managing content calendars, workflows, and publishing processesProficiency in CMS tools (WordPress/HubSpot) and Social Management tools (Sprout Social/Hootsuite)Excellent communication and project management skillsPassion for sports and building something from the ground upExperience working with cross-functional teams and external partnersExcellent communication, organizational, and project management skillsAbility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand and utilize a computer for extended periods of timeCommunicate via phone and email with a variety of individualsAbility to bend at the waist, reach overhead and lift up to 15 lbs with or without accommodationPhysically navigate stairs and catwalks event facilities during work hours and events with or without accommodationAbility to work extended hours including nights, weekends, holidays (all with advance notice)May be required to travel to other team / venue locationsMay be required to attend conference, events, and training sessions within Northern California or in- or out-of-state locations Why MLV NorCal?
