Kiln Engineer/Technician
Summary/Objective
This position is responsible for performance and preventative maintenance of all kilns and ovens within the facility. These items include improving kilns, furnaces, & oven performances, efficiency, product quality, and profitability through the implementation of effective methods and strategies. This position is also responsible for refractory improvements and recommendations.
All work is to be completed in a professional manner consistent with the Mission Statement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
This full-time position is to ensure that all workings are manufactured in a correct, cost effective and timely manner in alignment with specifications and quality requirements. Maintains compliance with McDanel policy and procedure in accordance with governing laws, regulations, regulatory agencies, accreditation bodies and company standards. Demonstrates on a consistent basis individual and team behavior that supports our mission and strategic goals of McDanel. Attends all training programs as required/directed. Be a role model for other staff by leading by example. Other duties may be assigned.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES
Maintain current level of safety program and continue required OSHA inspections, training, and evaluations. Work to further develop the existing safety program and culture creating heightened companywide awareness and compliance through employee awareness.
Monitor performance of kilns, furnaces, and ovens for all departments. This includes troubleshooting combustion systems and PLC’s.
Support and recommend departmental KPI’s to support McDanel corporate goals and objectives.
Assist Kiln Supervisor with setting and maintaining the yearly Kiln department spending budget, which includes consumable items such as refractory materials, kiln furniture, natural gas, and mortar.
Responsible for supporting and assisting with departmental training of employees with respect to job duties, safety, and quality.
Responsible for establishing work instructions and other procedures related to the Kilns and Furnaces.
Responsible for identifying and capturing cost savings related to the Kiln Department through maximizing kiln loads, scrap reduction, operational efficiencies, and refractory savings.
Responsible for Kiln Process Engineering, which includes maintaining process control data, new process development, and expanding process capabilities.
Recommend selection of new equipment to increase capacities and capabilities for the Kiln and SIALON Departments.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have direct reports.

Education and/or Experience
BS or Associate Degree in Engineering preferred, or 5 to 6 years’ experience in combustion related equipment. Ability to program and troubleshoot PLC’s is also a plus.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of other management, employees, and customers.
Effectively communicate with people in potentially stressful situations.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
