IT Intern
Position OverviewThe IT Intern will be embedded across two teams within the Information Technology department, gaining broad hands-on exposure to both innovation-focused and operational IT work. This is a split-team internship designed to provide a well-rounded IT experience.The intern will divide their working week as follows:* 2 days per week with the IT Innovation & Acquisitions team* 2 days per week with the IT Support teamIT Innovation & Acquisitions - ResponsibilitiesWorking alongside the IT Innovation & Acquisitions team, the intern will assist with a range of forward-looking technology initiatives, which may include:Supporting research and evaluation of emerging technologies and toolsContributing to proof-of-concept builds and innovation pilotsDocumenting findings, project progress, and technical recommendationsParticipating in team meetings, working groups, and strategy sessionsProviding general project support as directed by team leadsIT Support - ResponsibilitiesWorking alongside the IT Support team, the intern will play an active role in the Laptop Leasing Project - a key operational initiative managing the full lifecycle of leased devices across the organization. This role demands strong attention to detail and effective time management. Responsibilities will include:Setting up and configuring leased laptops to company standards, ready for deployment to employeesDecommissioning end-of-lease devices, ensuring data is securely wiped and equipment is prepared for returnAccurately tracking device inventory, lease status, and asset records throughout the equipment lifecycleCoordinating and processing shipments of equipment to employees and to the leasing company, ensuring items are correctly packaged, labelled, and dispatched on scheduleMaintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all devices, shipments, and lease activity to support audit and compliance requirementsLiaising with the leasing company and internal stakeholders to manage timelines and resolve any equipment or logistics queriesProviding additional support to the IT Support team as requiredIncorporating Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activitiesPerforms other duties as assignedConsistent, regular, and reliable attendance including being ready for work at the designated start timeQualifications & SkillsThe following qualifications and attributes are desirable for this role:Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related fieldFoundational understanding of IT systems, networks, and softwareEagerness to learn across both operational and strategic IT functionsStrong communication and interpersonal skillsStrong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines across two team environmentsStrong attention to detail - accuracy in device tracking, record-keeping, and logistics is essentialFamiliarity with common productivity tools (Microsoft 365 or equivalent)Physical Demands/Work Environment:The intern will work a four-day week on a hybrid basis - 2 days onsite at the company's offices and 2 days working remotely.
