Job DescriptionValley Health System in Ridgewood, New Jersey, is seeking a full-time Ambulatory Clinic Preceptor to join our dynamic Internal Medicine Residency continuity practice at our new, state-of-the-art Family Care Center.As we continue to expand our academic footprint, we are recruiting dedicated, mission-driven clinicians who are excited to shape a rapidly growing training program. This is a distinctive opportunity for physicians who are passionate about teaching, committed to delivering exceptional patient care, and eager to influence the development of the next generation of internists within a forward-thinking academic health system.The Ambulatory Clinic Preceptor serves as a key core faculty providing high-impact supervision, direct observation, and robust competency-based assessment of residents in the continuity clinic. This role is central to advancing residents along the trajectory from supervised practice to confident, independent clinicians. Preceptors at Valley model excellence in clinical care, professionalism, reflective practice, and scholarly engagement, contributing meaningfully to curriculum innovation, quality improvement, and the academic culture of the program. The role also includes maintaining a primary care patient panel within our Family Care Center, ensuring faculty remain grounded in the clinical realities that inform resident education. Core Responsibilities:Clinical Supervision & Resident TeachingFoster experiential learning, integrating evidence-based medicine, preventative care, chronic disease management, behavioral health principles, and social determinants of health.Assess resident performance using competency-based milestones and complete scheduled evaluations.Continuity Clinic Operations & Precepting WorkflowIntegrate high yield teaching topics into precepting rounds and ambulatory didactic sessions.Participate in clinic huddles and support team-based care.Review resident pre-charting, chart completion, diagnostic tests, patient messages, medication refills, and documentation for quality, accuracy, and safety.Resident Development & CoachingMeet with assigned residents to review goals, progress, performance, and individualized learning plans.Precept or deliver ambulatory teaching sessions, review resident presentations, and encourage active participation in learning activities.Participate as a member of the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and collaborate on curriculum development.Administrative & Program SupportCollaborate with precepting colleagues to ensure timely completion of shared clinical tasks.Identify opportunities to improve clinic workflows and propose enhancements to the Medical Director.Maintain KPI dashboards and complete required institutional modules (e.g., Hopkins, IHI).Participate in community outreach activities when feasible to support the clinic and residency program.
