Vison Engineer

We’re hiring a Machine Vision Programmer / Automation Engineer to join the Provis team.We’re currently looking for someone based in West Michigan, ideally in or around the Grand Rapids, Holland, Grand Haven, or Muskegon area.First and foremost: this is a programming role.You will be the person actually developing, configuring, testing, debugging, and commissioning machine vision applications.A large portion of your time will be spent programming vision systems, solving inspection problems, dialing in applications, troubleshooting equipment, and getting systems running successfully in production.This is not a sales position, and we are not looking for someone to primarily manage projects while other people do the technical work.You are the technical person doing the work.At the same time, our programmers are often the primary technical contact for the customer while they are on-site.That means strong communication skills matter. You’ll need to explain what you’re working on, communicate progress and problems, coordinate with customer engineering and maintenance teams, and take ownership of getting the project across the finish line.We want someone who can both write the program and confidently stand in front of the customer who is paying for it.What you’ll actually be doing:• Programming and configuring machine vision systems• Developing 2D and 3D inspection applications• Setting up cameras, laser profilers, lighting, sensors, and vision controllers• Developing inspection logic, measurements, defect detection, and pass/fail criteria• Integrating vision systems with PLCs, robots, industrial networks, and other automation equipment• Commissioning systems on customer equipment• Debugging and troubleshooting applications in production environments• Supporting system startup and production launch• Developing custom software and integrations using technologies such as C++, C#, Python, OpenCV, Open3D, and similar tools depending on the projectYou may work with platforms including Keyence, Cognex, LMI, SICK, Zebra, and other industrial vision technologies.What we’re looking for:• Strong programming and technical problem-solving ability• Interest or experience in machine vision, automation, robotics, controls, or manufacturing• Ability to independently troubleshoot difficult technical problems• Clear and professional communication• Confidence working directly with customers• Ability to manage your own priorities and communicate project status• Willingness to take ownership instead of waiting for constant direction• Comfortable working independently in manufacturing environmentsImportant: This is a travel-heavy position.A significant portion of our work happens at customer facilities throughout the country.
