Physician - Psychiatrist

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligible applicants must meet specific criteria per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amounts (up to $200,000) and eligibility periods (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office after review. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications Applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license requirements may allow temporary selection, but final hire requires completion of all requirements. Current VA physicians who met the previous qualification standard are considered to meet the basic qualifications. United States Citizenship (Non‑citizens may be appointed only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy) Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year completed Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia Residency training completed in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA physicians in academic training programs may be required to be board‑certified for faculty status. Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) are eligible if they are fully licensed physicians and will only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis, not considered independent practitioners, and will have a scope of practice allowing supervised restricted duties Proficiency in spoken and written English Physically and mentally able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, without hazard to self or others. Vision, hearing, or speech requirements may apply based on essential duties. Duties Provide general outpatient clinical psychiatric services to veterans, including on‑call services Conduct diagnostic evaluations, ongoing medication management, and brief individual therapy as indicated Work as part of a team that includes nurses, social workers, and psychologists Provide direct clinical supervision of mid‑level providers—psychiatric advanced practice nurses or physician assistants—and other staff as appropriate Select or adapt standard clinical theories, techniques, and practices for treating specialized problems or clinical populations Treat common patient diagnoses such as PTSD, anxiety disorders, ADHD, personality disorders, mood disorders, schizophrenia, substance use disorders, dementia, and sequelae from traumatic brain injury Coordinate specialty care referrals in areas such as neurology, sleep, endocrinology, and other internal and external specialties Participate in quality of care improvement activities, peer review, and performance improvement which fulfill requirements for physician board certification Maintain a typical Monday‑Friday schedule (8:00 am‑4:30 pm) with flexibility for four 10‑hour shifts per week; calls are rotational, averaging four weekends per year Benefits Competitive salary with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50‑55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, plus a possible 5‑day CME absence) Traditional federal pension after 5 years of service and 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long‑term care insurance (many are portable into retirement) Full license to practice in the U.S. and reimbursable CME (up to $1,000 per year for full‑time board‑certified physicians) Malpractice protection with tail coverage provided No employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) participation available for eligible candidates #J-18808-Ljbffr
