Position SummaryThe Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing daily department operations, ensuring high-quality food preparation, excellent customer service, and compliance with food safety standards. This role helps drive sales, manage team performance, and maintain an efficient and well-executed deli operation.Key Responsibilities Department Operations & ExecutionAssist in managing daily deli operations, including food preparation, cooking, slicing, packaging, and merchandisingEnsure all products meet company standards for quality, freshness, and presentationExecute production planning to meet customer demand while minimizing shrinkMaintain proper rotation (FIFO), labeling, and dating of all productsEnsure displays are fully stocked, clean, and attractiveLeadership & Team SupportSupervise, train, and coach deli clerks and food service team membersProvide direction during shifts to maintain productivity and service levelsAssist with scheduling and labor planning based on department needsPromote a positive, safety-first, and customer-focused team cultureCustomer ServiceDeliver exceptional customer service and actively engage with customersAssist customers with product selections, special orders, and service requestsResolve customer concerns promptly and professionallyEnsure a clean, welcoming, and service-driven departmentFood Safety & ComplianceEnsure strict adherence to all food safety, sanitation, and health regulationsMaintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and audit standardsMonitor temperatures, equipment cleanliness, and food handling practicesEnsure proper use and maintenance of deli equipmentInventory & Financial PerformanceAssist with ordering, receiving, and inventory management processesHelp control shrink, waste, and food cost through proper planning and executionSupport achieving department sales, margin, and labor targetsMonitor in-stock conditions and coordinate with vendors as neededQualificationsPrevious experience in deli, food service, or retail preferredLeadership or supervisory experience preferredKnowledge of food safety and sanitation standardsStrong communication and customer service skillsAbility to work in a fast-paced, food production environmentFlexible availability including nights, weekends, and holidaysPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand for extended periodsFrequent lifting of up to 50 lbsRepetitive tasks such as slicing, cooking, and stockingAbility to work in hot and cold environments (kitchen and refrigerated areas)
