JAE Volunteer Initiatives

We invite you to join our team of volunteers!Jean Appolon Expressions (JAE) is a contemporary dance company deeply rooted in Haitian-folkloric culture that celebrates, nurtures, and empowers a global community. Our mission is to cultivate hope and healing to foster more expressive and socially just communities through professional performances, education, cultural experiences, and the celebration of the joy of movement for all. We are currently looking for volunteers to help us with our upcoming events in the Greater Boston area and our community programming at the JAE Dance Center in Nubian Square-Roxbury. These initiatives are a great opportunity to network, develop experience in arts engagement, and gain a behind-the-scenes look into JAE's programs. You can submit to our Interest Form at any time. We’ll follow up with individuals whose qualifications and availability align with our needs. Studio Steward: Collaborates with our team to facilitate studio operations and our community class programming at the JAE Dance Center. Shifts would generally be 3 hours per week, based on your scheduled availability. Tasks would include: Performing the studio opening and closing protocol during your shiftCaretaking for the studio to maintain its safety, tidiness, and efficient use Managing the studio entrance and registering class attendees Engaging community members by sharing information about JAE offerings, studio amenities, and studio rentals.Event Ambassador: Joins us for community-building and tabling at JAE performances/events in the Greater Boston Area. The person in this role would: Set up a table of organizational materials (postcards, bookmarks, fliers, photos etc.) Engage event attendees by sharing information about JAE offeringsSell JAE merchandise to help support the company *Training is provided before your first shift. In exchange for your time commitment, you receive free admission to the event and an invitation to attend an open rehearsal for the dance company. Qualifications: 18+ years old Kind, Welcoming, Punctual Capacity for problem-solving and taking initiativeInterest in developing dance technique, working in arts administration, and/or community-buildingValues align with our mission and vision for JAE Dance CenterPreferred experience in customer service and CRMs (e.g Mindbody)How to Apply: Please complete the Interest Form linked below.
