Background Investigation: All candidates and employees may be subject to a background investigation.Summary of FunctionsThe Peer Counselor - Level 2 serves as an advanced member of the multidisciplinary treatment team. Building on foundational peer support responsibilities, this role carries expanded care coordination, member advocacy, and team collaboration responsibilities.Peer Counselors Level 2 use lived experience in recovery to support members in navigating complex life challenges, maintaining engagement in treatment, and advancing recovery goals. This role supports members across clinical, social, and community systems and acts as a key connector between members, clinic teams, and external resources.The Peer Counselor Level 2 exemplifies recovery leadership, reliability, and consistency while modeling hope, self-determination, and accountability.The Peer Counselor - Level 2 adheres to and actively supports the clinic's commitment to:Harm Reduction principlesMedication Assisted Treatment (MAT) as the preferred treatment modalityTrauma-informed, culturally responsive, and member-centered careTreating every person with dignity, respect, compassion, and autonomyEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPeer Support TasksMaintain strict compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and Washington State confidentiality lawsProtect member privacy during all peer support, care coordination, and documentation activitiesShare information only within authorized care teams and appropriate consent parametersProvide peer support services within scope of Peer Counselor certification and clinic policyDo not provide clinical counseling, diagnosis, or medical adviceEscalate clinical concerns, safety risks, or treatment decisions to licensed staffComplete required documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance with clinic policy and regulatory standardsDocument peer encounters, care coordination activities, and referrals accurately and within required timeframesSupport audit readiness by maintaining clear, factual, and professional documentationIdentify and immediately report safety concerns, risk indicators, or changes in member status to clinical leadershipParticipate in crisis response protocols, including suicide risk escalation, per clinic policyComply with mandatory reporting requirements as outlined by Washington State law and clinic proceduresParticipate in required DOH, federal, and state-mandated trainings, including substance use disorder, confidentiality, and safety trainingMaintain Peer Counselor certification and complete required continuing educationDemonstrate ongoing competency in harm reduction and recovery-oriented best practicesMaintain ethical, professional, and recovery-oriented boundaries with membersAvoid dual relationships, conflicts of interest, or exploitation of peer relationshipsUphold clinic values and regulatory standards in all member interactionsProvide peer support grounded in lived experience to help members remain engaged in treatment and recoveryEncourage wellness planning, personal responsibility, and the development of natural supportsSupport members in working through challenges, crises, and recovery goalsAssist with individual and group activities under appropriate clinical oversightCollaborate as part of the multidisciplinary treatment team, including counselors, nurses, providers, and peersParticipate in team meetings, treatment planning, and staffing discussions as appropriateReinforce treatment goals and recovery plans through consistent member engagementCare Coordination TasksAssist in assessing member needs related to housing, transportation, employment, benefits, legal issues, and other social determinants of healthSupport care coordination plans and provide updates as member needs evolveConnect members to internal clinic services and external community resourcesServe as a point of contact between members, clinic staff, families (when appropriate), and service providersMonitor member progress and identify concerns or emerging risks, escalating appropriately to clinical leadershipSupport continuity of care by helping members navigate transitions and service referralsAdditional Level 2 ResponsibilitiesServe as a more experienced peer resource for complex member situationsSupport consistency and follow-through on care coordination activitiesAssist with documentation related to peer support and care coordination servicesIdentify gaps in resources and communicate opportunities for improvement to leadershipModel professionalism, boundaries, and ethical peer practice within the teamAdministrative and Miscellaneous DutiesComplete all required documentation accurately and in a timely mannerParticipate in staff meetings, supervision, trainings, and assigned committeesMaintain ethical and professional peer relationships with members and colleaguesSupport front desk, resource room, or other clinic functions as assignedPerform additional duties as needed to support clinic operations and member careSupervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory duties.Education/Experience:High School Diploma or GED.Must be a Certified Peer Counselor.Minimum of 1 year experience as a Peer CounselorOpioid Treatment Program experience will be given hiring preference.AdditionalThe nature of this position is fast paced in high stress situation and conditions.It is essential that the applicant has an ability and desire to learn and work with a wide range of emotional and behavioral problems in adults and seniors the presenting problems of the entire family unit.Effective communication with collateral agencies having contact with the consumer, and ethnic minority and low-income families as well as knowledge and awareness of cultural relevancy and issues.Computer literate, with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic medical records systems, as well as a high level of initiative in keeping current with technological change.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, and outside contacts from a wide variety of ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds; good diplomatic skills, including strong conflict-resolution skills.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Excellent organizational and time management skills.Conducts all business activities in a professional and ethical manner.No history of alcohol or other drug misuse for 3 years prior to employment and does not display evidence of alcohol or other drug abuse while employed.Complies with and up to date with all other testing, screening, and credentialing as required.Must possess current driver's license and have proof of insurance for transport of clients.Other RequirementsObtain and maintain a Level 3 Kalispel Tribe of Indians Work Permit.Nights, Weekends, and holidays may be required.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job:Will spend some time on feet while filing, making photocopies, or standing to greet a visitor.Should have the ability to lift and carry up to 25lbs.
