Job DescriptionPosition SummaryThe HSE Specialist works with the Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Department to plan, direct, and implement Syntegon's HSE and Quality management programs and to ensure a positive, safe, healthy, and incident-free work environment. They are responsible for compliance with all safety, environmental and quality regulatory agencies. While having a general knowledge company-wide, this position will focus on compliance monitoring and reporting in all areas of the company. This position would also respond to emergency situations when they arise and will support HSE and Quality operations and staff to foster a zero-tolerance culture and ensure compliance.Essential FunctionsMaintaining accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate based reporting systemsFacilitate organization and leadership development efforts to address the root cause of HSE related issues. Coach management and employees at all levels to ensure compliance with all HSE program expectations and applicable federal & state lawsConducting risk assessments related to jobs performed by employees and suggests risk mitigation strategies through the Job Safety Analysis processConducting appropriate inspections and audits, and ensuring corrective actions are monitored and documentedCompleting and documenting all regulatory compliance activities through the HSE Calendar according to regulatory deadlinesResponding to and investigating events including injuries and near-miss events. Drive closure of effective corrective / preventive actions, as assignedQualificationsBasic QualificationsMinimum Associate's Degree RequiredCertification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CSP, CIH)Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar HSE rolePreferred RequirementsBachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferredIn-depth understanding of local, state, and federal HSE regulationsFamiliarity with risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniquesExcellent communication skills including written, verbal, listening, and customer service skills with the ability to effectively communicate with and work well with others in order to manage projects, meetingsHave strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence people and drive changeHas the ability to deliver internal training effectivelyFamiliar with using various office equipment, computers and various programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, networking and cloud-based systems.Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
