Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Supervisor of Anatomic Pathology and the direction of Pathologists and Cytotechnologists, the Anatomic Pathology Technician is responsible for receiving, processing, and preparing cytology and histology specimens to support the diagnosis of cancer and other diseases. This role performs both technical and clerical functions to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality specimen processing and reporting.Essential Duties And Responsibilities Receive, accession, and process cytology and histology specimens in a timely and accurate manner. Perform clerical and receiving functions associated with specimen tracking and reporting. Prepare specimens including, but not limited to:Fine Needle Aspirations (FNA) WANG procedures ThinPrep specimens Body fluid specimens for direct smears, cytospin preparation, staining, and/or cell block preparation Assist the Pathologist or Physician Assistant during grossing procedures. Monitor tissue decalcification processes and perform bone marrow specimen processing. Record cassette numbers and special processing instructions accurately. Load and operate tissue processors as required. Perform rapid diagnostic procedures, including frozen sectioning of tissue specimens. Carry out routine histologic procedures, including cutting and staining patient samples. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of preparation areas and ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards. Provide general support to Pathologists and Cytotechnologists to ensure the production of high-quality diagnostic slides. Perform other related duties as assigned. EducationHigh School Diploma or equivalent required. ExperienceTwo or more years of experience in an anatomic pathology department preferred. Licensure / CertificationNot required. Work EnvironmentLaboratory setting with exposure to biological specimens and laboratory equipment. Adherence to established safety and infection control procedures is required.
