The CHIO will be responsible for ensuring that clinical systems, particularly EHR, optimize workflows, improve patient outcomes, and support the mission of clinical excellence, discovery, and equity. This role requires a practicing physician with a strong background in clinical informatics, deep knowledge of EHR systems, and a proven track record of leading change and building consensus. The successful candidate will be a champion of continuous optimization, data-driven care, and the responsible adoption of emerging technologies, including AI and advanced analytics, with a focus on patient safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities for the CHIO include clinical informatics and system optimization, leading governance structures for clinical content and workflow design, and partnering with clinical leaders to reduce documentation burden. The role also involves engagement in AI, innovation, and emerging technologies, as well as a strong emphasis on patient safety, quality, and data. The ideal candidate will have an MD or DO with board certification, be eligible for or hold Washington State medical licensure, and have extensive experience in leading clinical informatics teams. Preferred qualifications include formal training in informatics, experience in an academic medical center, and a record of improving clinician experience and operational performance through informatics.
